My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hey everyone! It’s me Waffles, a handsome 12-year-old (soon to be 13), 30-pound tan and white Cocker Spaniel. I’m finally ready to find my forever home!!

I’m your classic Cocker Spaniel — a sweet and gentle soul, devoted to my people and have those gorgeous floppy ears. I’m also pretty muscular for a senior guy, if I do say so myself.

So here’s my story: my previous owner had to move into a facility and couldn’t take me with them. It was really hard on both of us, but they made sure I’d find an amazing new home to enjoy my golden years. I may be blind from inoperable cataracts, but trust me—I don’t let that slow me down! My sense of smell is INCREDIBLE, and I picked up navigating my foster home super quickly. Check out my videos!

I absolutely LOVE to play and would really enjoy having an active doggie sibling (my size or bigger, please!) to romp around with. I’m obsessed with toys and will walk around carrying one in my mouth while wagging my little nub tail—it’s my signature move! I’m a total love bug who adores being petted, and I’ll lie right on your feet while you’re cooking or hanging out. I don’t give kisses, but I’m more of a “leaner”—I like to lean into my humans to show affection!

A few things you should know: I’m crate trained but will only go in when treats are involved! I sleep in my “house” at night and when my humans go out and I am content. I LOVE having a backyard where I can run and roll all over the grass. Since I am blind I haven’t been exposed to leash walking (I’m willing to try though if you are), so a fenced-in yard is a must. Also, no cats please—they’re not my vibe. And due to my age and lack of vision, I would do best with only older, dog-savvy children.

Bath time? Not a fan! But my foster mom wipes me down with baby wipes and dog shampoo, and that works great. I’m also not a fan of having the bottom of my paws touched (but who is?), and car rides stress me out a bit…mainly because I lose my navigation path. With a patient family and repeat exposure, I might get used to them in time.

I’m a lovable senior gentleman who would do best with someone home most of the time. I have pretty good house manners when kept on a consistent potty schedule, though I’ll need a refresher and patience while adjusting to my new home.

So, could you be my person? I promise I’ll fill your home with love and companionship! Let’s make my golden years golden!

More about this rescue

Florida Coastal Cocker Rescue (FCCR) is a non-profit organization located in SW Florida. We are dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and re-homing Cocker Spaniels throughout the state of Florida and neighboring states. We rely 100% on donations and volunteers to help us take care of our dogs. All of our dogs are spayed or neutered, up to date on vaccines and rabies, heartworm tested, flea and heartworm treatment, and microchip.

FCCR carefully screens all of our potential furever and foster homes to ensure that our pups will have safe and loving homes. Some of our dogs come from shelters and abusive situations and we want to make sure that they will only see love the rest of their lives.
