Meet Butterscotch, a gentle 10-year-old soul who spent her golden years abandoned at a shelter, unsure why her world had suddenly changed. When she arrived, she was heartbreakingly shut down—her fur painfully matted, covered in debris, and too scared to even lift her head. She curled into the smallest ball she could make, hoping the world would simply leave her alone. She wouldn’t come forward to greet anyone; she had lost trust, and she had lost hope.
At just 30 lbs, she’s still gaining weight after refusing to eat in the shelter from fear and confusion. But despite everything she’s endured, Butterscotch is quietly, bravely learning to live again.
In her foster home, she’s slowly opening up. She has discovered that gentle hands are safe, soft voices are comforting, and she now allows volunteers to pet her with a sweetness that melts your heart. She is still early in her journey—learning what love feels like, learning how to walk on a leash, learning that she matters.
Butterscotch lights up around other dogs. Their presence brings her comfort, confidence, and a sense of belonging. Her ideal home will have another friendly dog to help guide her the rest of the way forward.
