My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Toto was purchased from a puppy store as a young puppy… and then spent most of his life left outside. No consistency. No guidance. No safety. For years, he wasn’t taught how to trust people, feel secure, or simply be a dog. About two months ago, we were finally able to step in and bring Toto into our care. It was far too late, but thankfully, not too late. Because of the neglect he experienced early on, Toto grew up unsure of the world around him. Unsure of routines. Unsure of other dogs. Unsure of what comes next. And yet… he still has so much love left to give. Give Toto reassurance, affection, and consistency, and you’ll see it immediately. He melts. He relaxes. He bonds hard. Toto is a true Velcro dog - happiest curled up beside you, following you from room to room, loving you with his whole heart once he feels safe! At 4 years old and just 11 lbs, Toto is both playful and calm. He enjoys his walks, is fully house trained, and loves his cozy, cuddly downtime. Because he missed out on early socialization, Toto would do best as the only dog in the home, but with people, he is gentle, affectionate, and deeply loyal. He so badly WANTS TO BE LOVED, AND WANTS TO LOVE YOU BACK. Toto is still learning confidence, especially when it comes to being alone, but his foster says his progress has been incredible. He’s trying so hard every single day! What Toto needs now is someone who won’t give up on him. Someone patient. Someone consistent. Someone who understands that dogs like Toto don’t come broken, they come unfinished and just need someone who can trust that he will break out of his shell!

Adoption application

Go meet their pets

The first step of the adoption process is to complete an adoption application in full at www.rescuecity.nyc. All of our dogs are in foster homes throughout the city. We do not have a physical location where we keep dogs.

More about this rescue

Rescue City is a no-kill, non-profit1 pet rescue, rehabilitation, and adoption organization. Our team of dedicated volunteers is based in Brooklyn, NY and serves the NYC metro and surrounding areas.

Our organization’s motto is: There’s a person for every dog, and there’s a dog for every person…it’s just a matter of time. This applies whether you are looking to adopt a pet, or would like to make a positive impact on the lives of animals. At Rescue City we believe it is our moral responsibility to defend the lives of abused, abandoned, and neglected animals.
We take on helpless stray and surrendered animals, as well as those at the top of the euthanasia list at local and international shelters. We place our rescues in nurturing foster homes while they rebuild their lives through physical and mental rehabilitation. Following a thorough – but hassle free – adoption process, our Rescues are placed in loving, responsible, and committed permanent homes. Every rescue is fully vetted and altered, micro-chipped, and vaccinated upon adoption. Our commitment to our rescues does not stop once the adoption paperwork is signed. We stress the importance of responsible pet ownership, and we educate our Fosters, Adopters, and community on what it means to be a good pet owner.
