DOG TEST: (Okay with Dogs) Sweetie can be timid in the shelter enviroment and has been timid and slow to say hi to other dogs here at the shelter. With slow introductions staff believes she can learn to be around other dogs.
CAT TEST: (Okay with Cats) Sweetie is quite curious about cats here at the shelter. With slow introductions and supervision Sweetie seems like she could do good in a home with cats.
KID TEST: (Best with Older Kids) Due to Sweeties size and tendancy to jump she would do best in a home with older kids! HOUSE BROKEN: (Needs Work) Sweetie does not seem to be potty trained. ENERGY LEVEL: (Medium) Sweetie is a sweet girl who is still learning that the world isn`t so scary. Sweetie has opened up for volunteers and staff and loves going on walks outside. Sweetie would fair best in a slow paced enviroment that can help ease her into new adventures! Once Sweetie opens up she loves to run around and play with her toys.
LEASH WALKING: (Needs Work) Sweetie tends to jump up and pull on the leash while on walks. KNOWN COMMANDS: Sit (No) Down (No) Stay (No) Shake (No) Drop (No)

Our shelter is open 7 days a week. (Excluding holidays).
Monday- Friday 8am-5pm
Saturday- Sunday 10am-2pm
We ask that you come visit any time between open and no later than 30 minutes prior to closing. This ensures that staff will have enough time to assist you in meeting one of our great furry friends!

More about this shelter
We are a Municipal Animal Shelter for the City of Lee's Summit. We house animals brought in by Lee's Summit Animal Control Officers and Blue Springs Animal Control Officers.
Animals are also brought to us by owners that can no longer keep the animal or by strays that were impounded for running loose.
When an animal comes in as a stray, it is held for 5 days to give the owner a chance to claim it. If the owner does not claim it, on the 6th day it is put up for adoption or foster. During this 5 day holding period, if a potential adopter would like to adopt the animal, they are welcome to sign up on the adoption list. The names on the adoption list are contacted on the 6th day if no owner has made claim.
If there are no names on the adoption list, then the animal will become first come, first served when available for adoption.
