WE NEED A HOME ASAP FOR CAIRO!!! Come meet him at our open house on December 10, 2025 at Golden years dog sanctuary. The foster can no longer foster him and we hve no where for him to go. Please foster or adopt today! This dog is awesome! here is his story: Ready for a miracle...... check out Cairo's recovery! On May 3, a twelve-year-old German. Shepherd came into the Downey shelter as a stray. They called him Elijah, he had severe arthritis and difficulty standing up and walking. We rescued him on June 10th. We assumed he was a hospice dog. He could not stand up without the help of a sling, and his walking was limited. Yet, after being in a home for several months, getting cold laser therapy from our veterinarian and being on carprofen, he has made a miraculous recovery. He does not have myelopathy. His arthritis is under control, and he is not only walking, he is running around. Our foster planned on fostering him short-term. She wants to save another dog from the shelter, and is now asking us to find him a forever home. Now that his prognosis is good, we would love to find him a forever home. Here is what the foster had to say about him: he needs a chill and quiet house. He does not like loud noises or bangs. He loves to be outside exploring with his person and then loves to snuggle in bed. He does well with small dogs and doesn't know his own size. He would do great with a larger dog. He is incredibly smart and aware. I think he would do really well on a larger piece of property or land where he can roam. .
