Their adoption process

Important: We prioritize the best match over first-come, first-served to ensure you have a successful, long-lasting bond with your pet.

Adoption steps

  1. Visit the Facility and Find a Pet
    1. Our adoption coordinator will help you find the right fit, online or in person. If you don’t find the perfect match, check for new arrivals.
  2. Submit Application
    1. Complete and submit the appropriate adoption application below. Allow up to 48 hours for your application to be processed.
  3. Approve Application
    1. After 48 hours, call the shelter at 715-682-9744 to check the status - approved, need information, or declined. We will not contact you.
  4. Meet the Pet
    1. For dogs only: bring all household members and any current dogs to meet your potential new companion with our Adoption Counselor.
  5. Pay Fee
    1. Every pet is spayed/neutered, health-checked, dewormed, microchipped, and vaccinated as appropriate for their age. (Fee subject to change.)
  6. Take the Pet Home
    1. Once all the previous steps are complete, it’s finally time to welcome your pet home and build a loving relationship with them furever.

More about this shelter

Chequamegon Humane Association is a dedicated animal welfare organization serving Northwestern Wisconsin with a mission to provide care and compassion for animals in need. We offer essential services, including pet adoption, animal control facilities, a pet food pantry, and more for lost and found pets.

At Chequamegon Humane Association, there are no time limits on how long animals stay at our shelter—each pet remains available for adoption until they find their loving forever home. If a pet in our care requires medical attention, our team ensures they receive the same high-quality care you’d want for your own furry companion.
