Spooky is a 2-year-old Terrier mix whose unique looks and gentle spirit make her truly unforgettable. She came into the care of HSSM on October 11th after being found wandering the streets of Gulfport with no collar, tags, or microchip. When she first arrived, life in the shelter felt a little scary, and Spooky was shy and uncertain. But with time, patience, and the help of a few canine friends, she’s started to blossom into the loving, trusting girl we always knew she could be.
Spooky walks beautifully on a leash and approaches life with quiet grace. She’s gentle in everything she does, from her soft eyes to her slow, sweet tail wags. Her favorite place to be is alongside another friendly dog — they give her confidence and comfort as she continues to open up to the world.
Spooky is up to date on vaccines, microchipped, heartworm negative, and will be spayed upon adoption if not already. She may be shy at first, but give her a little time, and you’ll see what we see — a truly special soul ready to love and be loved.

HSSM is home to over 300 pets on any given day, most of which are looking for new forever homes! Your new best friend could be waiting at HSSM right now. Our beautiful, 41,000 square foot facility is currently open to the public. HSSM is open for adoptions Tuesday – Friday from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. No appointment is necessary to adopt, however, adoptions are first-come, first served. You must come to HSSM to complete your adoption and make sure you bring a photo ID, as it is required to complete adoption paperwork.
Our adoptable animals page is self-updating and displays ALL of HSSM’s adorable adoptable pets from “pocket pets” to birds and of course the hundreds of dogs and cats currently calling HSSM home! See one you like? Make sure you note your favorite’s name and animal ID number so that HSSM staff and volunteers can easily find him/her when you come in!
Adoptions are cut off every day about 30 minutes prior to closing and possibly earlier if volume is high. Weekends are busy and you may have to wait more than an hour (especially in the afternoons) so please be prepared.
