Dog Name: Garner James
Breed: Mixed breed
Sex: Male
Age: 6 months old approx.
Weight: Approx. 25lbs. However, we believe he will be a large dog full grown.
Medical Needs:
Garner James is a Parvo survivor and is now healthy and ready to meet his forever family.
Will need to continue with age-appropriate vaccines and must be spayed/neutered by December 3, 2025. The spay/neuter appointment is included in the adoption fee at one of the clinics we use and the foster-to-adopt family will be emailed to request the appointment at the time of adoption at the clinic closest to them. (Options are Wilmington, Newark, Dover, Georgetown.) Keeping the appointment that’s assigned will be a condition of adoption. Foster to adopt families must live within one hour of DE and be willing to travel here for the pending appointment.
As he is a young puppy, he cannot be left alone, more than 4 hours at a time.
Housebroken: A work in progress! Garner James is a bit behind due to his recovery from Parvo. However, he is taken outside immediately after he eats and at various times throughout the day. However, he occasionally has an accident overnight.
Crate trained:
Garner James is crate trained and will happily play with his toys and amuse himself.
Good in the car: Yes, Garner James loves to ride (in a crate) and will quickly go to sleep.
He occasionally will get car sick, so using a crate for traveling is suggested.
Good on a leash: Garner James is still learning. His foster family has a fenced-in yard, so he is still learning to walk on a leash.
Energy level: Garner James is all puppy!! He loves to play, outside or inside! He likes to wrestle with his brother and chase the resident dogs around. Once, he has worn himself out, he looks for lap to cuddle and nap on. Garner James loves to cuddle.
Need a fenced-in yard: No.
Dog Friendly: Yes. Garner James is fostered with his brother, who he loves to wrestle and play with. He also attempts to play with the resident adult dogs. He has listened well to their corrections when he gets too rowdy.
If yes, does your foster need another dog in its adoptive home? No. However, he would love playmate.
Cat Friendly? Yes. Garner James is fostered with dog-savvy cats. He hasn’t taken any interest in them.
Kid Friendly: Unknown. His fosters do not have children, but as a young puppy, he would love to have little people to play with.
If yes, what's the youngest child you'd recommend they be placed with? Any age with proper supervision would be fine.
Special traits that make your foster special, or that we need to know about them?
Garner James along with his siblings, were pulled from a North Carolina shelter at approx. 12 weeks old. He is fostered with one of his brothers. Garner James will let you when he wants attention, when he’s had an accident in his crate or pen, and when the resident dogs decide to have a sing a long. Garner James is extremely sweet and loving.
