My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hunkules — The Gentle Giant With a Cloud-Soft Heart ☁️🐾
At over 15 pounds, Hunkules is a big boy with an even bigger heart. Despite his impressive size, he moves through life like a drifting cloud — quiet, calm, and full of peace.

This two-year-old sweetheart has the soul of a gentleman. He prefers gentle head rubs over rowdy play, though he’ll happily join a friendly game of catch-the-string when invited. Hunkules is patient and kind, even taking turns with his condo buddy, Clyde — proof that chivalry isn’t dead.

He’d thrive in a soft-spoken home where kindness comes naturally and the quiet moments matter most. Hunkules doesn’t ask for much — just a cozy spot to rest, a little love, and someone who appreciates the serenity he brings to every room.An adoption application can be filled out on the DHS website https://www.dekalbhumanesociety.org/adopt. More about this shelter

At DeKalb Humane Society, we are passionate about finding forever homes for the pets in our care. Whether they are cats, dogs, or other furry friends, our mission is to provide them with a loving and nurturing environment.

We also believe in the importance of education about responsible pet ownership. We strive to educate our community about pet welfare, the benefits of spaying/neutering, and the prevention of animal abuse and neglect.

By adopting a pet from us, you are not only gaining a lifetime companion, but you are also contributing to our cause and helping us raise awareness. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of these innocent animals.

The DeKalb Humane Society filed for our Certificate of Incorporation on December 23, 1975 and we were granted 501(c)3 status in March of 1976. We are committed to being a no-kill shelter and serving the DeKalb County area.
