n July 2024, we noticed a stray dog taking shelter in our yard. She was very skittish and spent most of her time hiding. By August, we discovered she had given birth to three puppies and had made a little home for them beneath the tarps. I began feeding her and slowly gaining her trust so we could care for her and her pups. Once the puppies were old enough, three of my coworkers adopted them. Over time, the mama dog who we named Summer became more comfortable and friendly. I was eventually able to get a harness and leash on her. Thanks to generous donations, we were able to get Summer spayed and vaccinated. During her recovery, I brought her into my home and cared for her while continuing to search for a permanent home—unfortunately, without success. Summer is a wonderful dog. She’s about 3 years old, very affectionate, and great with my grandkids and our German Shepherd. She loves to play and thrives on companionship. She needs more space than I I’m currently able to provide.
