Regis is part of our prison program, The FIDO Project. While he was living at the shelter, he struggled a bit, so we selected him to join our training program located at the Marion Correctional Institution.
This handsome guy has thrived in training class. He now knows a long list of cues and commands, which he performs eagerly, and he is crate-trained. He loves to work for food and has great focus on his trainer. He stays close to his person, & does best with a predictable, daily routine.
Regis is not drawn to the thrill of adventure or new environments. With slow, thoughtful exposure, he will likely build more confidence over time. Large crowds make him uneasy, so his ideal home will support steady growth and gentle, unforced opportunities to explore & enjoy new experiences. A busy household with frequent guests may not be in his best interest. Regis is still growing, is affectionate, playful, and silly. Working with him has been truly rewarding.
We are eager to help him find his happy place in life. He has finished the 8-week training class at the prison, but he is still living there until a family is found for him.

More about this shelter
Marion County Animal Services is the largest animal shelter in our county. Operating as a no-kill shelter, our kennels are almost always full. We provide adoption, fostering opportunities, work with rescues, accept volunteers and provide the training for veterinary assisting students. In addition, we run the Neuter Commuter and provide all animal control services in Marion County.
Due to the sheer volume of animals in our care, we need lots of help from our community in our effort to adopt out more and save more!
We don't only accept the ideal animals into our shelter. We can offer you quite the array of animal breeds and personalites! Keep an open mind when visiting our shelter- you may find that your perfect match is not at all what you set out to find.
We're here to help you as well as our homeless and lovable animals.
