My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Chilli - a gentle. calm calico with a heart full of love. She's the definition of easy going and is happiest when she is lounging beside you and soaking up affection.

Chilli is FIV+, but with regular care she can live a long-love filled life.
Five positive points for adopting FIV+ cats:
1. They can have a normal lifespan. With proper care, a nutritious diet, and regular vet checkups, many FIV+ cats can live just as long as uninfected cats. They may never show any symptoms related to their infection.
2. The risk of transmission is very low in a stable household. FIV is primarily transmitted through deep, penetrating bite wounds during aggressive fights, not through casual contact like sharing food and water bowls, mutual grooming, or playing. Spayed or neutered indoor cats who are properly introduced pose a very low risk to other peaceful, non-aggressive cats.
3. FIV is not a death sentence. FIV+ cats do not have "feline AIDS". The virus can remain dormant for years, and most infected cats do not progress to severe illness. Their needs are very similar to those of uninfected cats: a high-quality diet, a stress-free indoor environment, and twice-yearly veterinary visits.
4. They are just as affectionate and playful as any other cat. Many people who have adopted FIV+ cats report that they are no different from other cats and can be very loving and rewarding pets. They have all the same feline personality traits and are capable of a full, happy life.
5. You will be saving a life. FIV+ cats are often overlooked in shelters due to old and inaccurate information. By adopting one, you are giving a deserving cat a second chance at a loving, forever home that they might otherwise not find.
