12/9/25 Foster Feedback:
Crypt, aka Kip, Kippy Tikki Tavi, Kip-tain America, Kippy Longstocking, Kip-Tie, along with many other terrible pun-based aliases, is a delightful little gentleman. He's been with me about a week now- not one accident, no destruction, free-roams the house when I'm not here, sleeps on the bed with me at night, and puts up admirably with my resident dog's bologna. Crypt knows come, sit, lie down, shake, and probably other commands that we have not unearthed yet. He really enjoys engaging with tricks.
I will echo what his last foster said about Crypt being very gentle while taking treats. He does bark when I leave home and occasionally at passersby; I don't know if he barks the whole time I am gone or not, but when I am home he is mostly quiet and happy to hang out and nap or chew a bone. His favorite toy is a pink stuffy ball that he likes to cuddle; he is constantly emptying out the toy box but is not super playful so far. Crypt also doesn't seem toy-destructive- just likes to cuddle them or carry them around.
So far, Crypt is on the shy side of dog personalities, at least as it applies to other dogs. He might moan a bit when competing with my dog for prime couch space, but always backs down and moves. He was shy and uncertain at first, but now that he's had a chance to settle in is very cuddly and always wants to be where I am. He is excited to meet new people at home and we are still testing him out in public spaces- he did okay at Natural Pet Center recently but was pretty antsy.
While guesting at the rescue, he earned the reputation of being a bit of a door-darter, so we work on threshold manners and use the airlock method of going in and out of the house just to be safe. Crypt is also agile and sneaky enough to grab snacks off the counter while you're not looking, so keep things put away.
He's got some dry skin that we're working on and he's on a grain free diet per vet instructions. Crypt is not a voracious eater; I feed him at 7 and 5 and he doesn't always finish his food. He might do okay with free feeding (although I won't be able to test this as my resident dog will inhale anything he finds). He of course enjoys treats. Being shepherd/husky he does shed but it's certainly not the worst I've seen, and Crypt loves to be brushed.
Overall I think Crypt just wants someone to love, a soft place to sleep, and someone who'll teach him nifty tricks. He's an easy dog and will fit in wonderfully anywhere he goes.
11/2/25 Foster Feedback: Crypt (we call him Kip or Kippy) has been in our home for exactly one month now.
When he first arrived, Crypt was timid and unsure. He kept his distance and was very quiet during the first couple of weeks. But around week two, he began to blossom—his personality started to shine, and we quickly saw how intelligent he is. He’s got the smarts of a German Shepherd and has even learned how to nudge open doors and gates, though he never gets into anything he shouldn’t.
Crypt is fully potty trained and takes food and treats with gentle care. It took him a little time to discover that peanut butter and cheese are delicious, and now he accepts treats with a sweet hesitation, almost as if asking, “Are you sure this is for me?”
He’s grown more comfortable with affection and no longer backs away when I reach out to pet him. By the second week, he was soaking up scratches and began cuddling next to me on the couch and in bed.
While he enjoys chewing on a fancy bone, Crypt hasn’t shown much interest in toys or balls yet. He’ll chase a ball when tossed but lets his foster sibling do the retrieving.
If you’re someone who spends a lot of time in the car, Crypt might be your perfect copilot. He whimpers every time I leave the house and tries to sneak into the car with me. He absolutely loves scenic drives, especially with his snout out the window.
Now that he’s settled in, Crypt has become quite vocal. He’s quiet when I’m gone, but when I’m home, he does bark—often to communicate or get attention. We’re working on his barking etiquette, helping him learn when it’s appropriate to bark and when it’s not. When he knows it’s not the time to bark, he switches to his signature husky noises instead!
His playful side is starting to emerge, and he enjoys upright wrestling with his foster sister. He’s also a total Velcro dog—he follows me everywhere around the house, but he’s great at just relaxing nearby while I read or take phone calls.
Crypt free roams the house when I’m away and simply naps. He hasn’t gotten into any mischief at all.
Due to his vocal nature, I wouldn’t currently recommend Crypt for apartment living. While he’s quiet when left alone, his barking at home could be disruptive in close quarters.
We’ll continue to share updates as we learn more about this sweet boy. Crypt is truly a joy to have in our home.
