My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Betty is a very affectionate and outgoing coonie girl. She has lived among a pack of hounds for four years and is looking for a new home due to her owners relocation to a City in which keeping several hounds is impossible. Bet is eager to meet new fur friends at the dog park, on the beach and everywhere she walks. She is also eager to meet new people on her adventures and her assumption is that everyone is eager to meet her too! Bet is trained off leash and has very good recall but as a hound girl if she catches a deer scent she may run off. Depending on where in the country she is rehomed she may need to wear a gps collar as she does now. Bet is very affectionate and craves attention but she does not demand it at all. She is a beta among other dogs and causes no trouble with her canine friends. I believe Bet is best suited for a home with at least one other dog in the house. She is great with children. And while Bet is NOT aggressive about food she LOVES IT. She may have been hungry as a baby - she was found with her litter and her mother - and although she has never missed a meal since being found, she will try to convince her people otherwise. Bet is a truly lovely and gentle hound girl who will warm her owners hearts. Bet is 7 - 8 yrs old and weighs about 50 lbs.

More about this rescue

Coonhounds make wonderful pets. They are very sociable and affectionate and get along well with families and with other dogs. Outside of New England, coonhounds are mostly used for hunting and are often discarded and undervalued if they turn out to be poor trackers or are not needed anymore. Our mission is to educate people about the suitability of coonhounds as pets; to provide support to coonhound owners; and to re home as many coonhounds as possible .
