Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Many dogs here in the shelter epitomize the saying “Don’t judge a book by its cover”. One such pup is perky-eared petite cutie Sofia! If you were to walk by Sofia`s kennel, she would likely bark at you through her kennel bars, but don`t be fooled, she’s not saying “Get away!”, what she’s really trying to say is “Take me out! I want to snuggle!!”
Sofia came to the shelter after her former family lost their home; they had many wonderful things to share about her including that she loves to go hiking, loves toys, knows tricks, and can also be a snuggly couch potato.
Volunteers have watched her transition from a scaredy pup into a silly, snuggly, affectionate girl and they love spending time with her!
“Sophia is a beautiful little girl who is pretty scared in the loud kennels. Once leashed up, she was a fine walker going over to the yard. After a little bit of time to decompress in the yard, she would come over to me when her kennelmate was near and would stand next to me to get pets on her chin and chest. She is very sweet and obviously confused as to why she’s in this scary place. The more time we spent together, the more comfortable she was with affection. She finally planted herself by my foot and I found the sweet spot that she loves to be scratched right behind her ear. After about 15 minutes she had completely relaxed and was comfortable sitting by my side, receiving affection.”
“Sofia is doing so great!! She is still a goofy, barky girl in her kennel (don’t judge her by her kennel presence!), but she’s now very easy to leash up and in a play yard she has really opened up for affection! She eventually ended up on my lap, with her front two paws on my knees as I scratched her chin and head and beautiful perky ears! She makes the funniest grumbly little sounds and just loves getting her ears rubbed!”
Sofia shares her kennel politely with a kennelmate here in the shelter and would like to meet any potential furry roommates before heading to a new home. She’s dreaming of her forever couch; might that be yours? Come meet her today!
