Update for August 2025 July 2nd the Sharon Police Department dropped off a stray dog that was in need of vet care. The vet found that she is suffering from severe allergies associated with mange that has been left untreated. This is something you treat from the inside with oral medication, and outside with bathing. She started out at 42lbs and is now up to 65lbs! We are so happy with her progress, but know she still has a long journey ahead of her. This is something that could have been dealt with early on and wouldn’t have gotten to this extreme. Sable is on a special food *From the post we had people reach out that had seen this dog before. Thank you for that help! This is now in the hands of law enforcement. This is a good lesson of - If you see something, say something. Thank you to the Sharon Police Department for helping get her to safety! Keep watch for more updates to come on her amazing journey!
Update for October 2025 You may remember her story back in August. Well here are her updated pictures. Sable has made GREAT strides and is improving daily. She’s on a special food that will need to be purchased for her, loves all the dogs and people she can meet. Over the weekend she was at the Advanced Auto event. We hear she loved every minute of it. Lakeland Animal Shelter is centrally located three miles south of Elkhorn, WI. on highway 67, and it is the only animal shelter in Walworth County. Its doors are open to the public six days a week except on legal holidays. The shelter is staffed by dedicated and trained employees. Volunteers also play a crucial role in meeting many of the shelter's special care needs.
Provide temporary care for stray, abandoned and unwanted animals.
Own and operate a rescue vehicle to pick up stray pets from municipal holding areas and private citizens.
Respond to injured animal emergencies 24 hours a day.
Employ a humane Officer to investigate cruelty and abuse complaints.
Maintain records on lost and found pets
Have available humane live traps for animals requiring capture.
Seek good homes for pet adoptions.
Provide a resource library.
