My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Sarge is a 53-pound, easygoing pup with a heart as big as his silly ears. He’s a fun mix of several breeds: one of his brothers completed a DNA test that revealed German Shepherd, Bulldog, Husky, and even Australian Shepherd in the mix!

Sarge enjoys spending his days trotting around the yard, then settling in for a good nap, preferably under (or on top of!) our agility equipment. He's a big fan of our lawn chairs! If there’s a comfortable spot with a great view, Sarge will find it.

Here at HSOC, Sarge has done extremely well with other dogs. While he’s typically a nonchalant guy, he can get a bit enthusiastic during playtime. Any potential canine siblings would need a meet-and-greet to be sure their play styles are a good match. That said, Sarge would also be perfectly happy as the only dog in the home, soaking up affection from his humans and providing loyal companionship. Sarge has been cat-tested in the office here, but has not been in a home setting with a cat. He has not shown any aggression or fixated behavior with cats here at HSOC, so we believe he would do well in a home with cats.

Sarge has been working hard on polishing his manners as he awaits his forever home. He may still need a little guidance with jumping up to say hello, but he responds well to proper correction once you break through the "stubbornness". Multiple trainers have shared that Sarge is a wonderful dog to work with, and we believe he would make a great family companion for a home with children.

Every adoption includes a transitional training lesson with dog trainer, Jim Kats, to help Sarge (and his new family) start off on the right paw!

Additional adoption info

All adoptions start with an application and a meet-n-greet between the family (and, yes, that very much does include all members with fur and four legs!) and the prospective adoptee. Fees available upon request.

More about this shelter

The Humane Society of Oldham County is the areas first no kill animal rescue. We run a top notch spay\neuter clinic, rescue and find loving homes for homeless or abused animals in our area, monitor and care for feral cat colonies including TNR. We also help the community through our many programs including Kentucky State Reformatory(KSR) Camp K9 where dogs are housed with professionally trained, monitored, nonviolent inmates to socialize and train our adoptable dogs to be highly adoptable and have good basic skills. A wonderful program for the inmates and our dogs.
