My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Peggie — The Pocket-Sized Tripod Queen (Yes, she’s got three legs, one attitude, and endless love to give.)

If you’ve ever wished for a dog who’s equal parts cuddlebug, comedian, and tiny warrior princess, congratulations — your soulmate is here. Peggie is a sweet, lovable little nugget who’s still learning how to navigate the world on three legs… and tbh, she’s doing it with more grace than most of us on a Monday.

Three legs, zero limitations (okay, maybe one or two)

Peggie lost a front paw, so she’s figuring out how to balance, jump, and do life in general. She can launch herself into a recliner like an Olympian… but exiting? Let’s just say gravity wins. She mostly hops along holding her little stump up like a tiny princess requesting to be carried — which, honestly, is her preferred lifestyle. She tires easily, so she currently rides in a stroller like the diva she is. She didn’t like it at first, but now she’s basically tolerating her chauffeur service.

Foodie in training

Peggie needs to gain weight, so she eats three small meals a day and thinks that’s a pretty sweet deal. Fair warning: she may side-eye or snap at another dog her size if they try to steal her snacks or her human’s attention. She’s learning — but like any girl on a diet, she’s not sharing.

Potty training? She’s 90% there!

Peggie doesn’t ask to go out, so she’ll need someone who sends her out on a schedule. She’s smart and catches on fast — she’s already learning “come,” “pee,” “poop,” and “no,” because yes, she’s that brilliant.

World-class cuddler, lap hog, professional snuggler, Peggie is happiest when:

  • she is in your lap
  • she is about to be in your lap
  • she is thinking about being in your lap

If you sit, she will claim you. If she can’t? She’ll settle for the dog bed next to you… but she won’t be happy about it. Also, that new dog bed? She is actively destroying it. It’s her process. Don’t ask questions.

Other dogs & cats

She’s learning to coexist with dogs and is now best friends with Callie, her foster sister. She may snap at dogs over food or lap time — nothing dramatic. Just a “hey, back off, that’s MY person” kind of vibe. Indoor cats are unknown, but she is interested in the barn cats. Probably for their food. Respect.

Stranger danger… kinda

Peggie barks ferociously at people entering the house — even people she knows. She sounds like she’s about to file a police report, but there’s zero bite behind that bark. As soon as she decides you’re cool (takes her a few mins), she wants to be held, kissed, snuggled, and adored.

Sleeping arrangements

She sleeps in a crate at night — not her preference, but she tolerates it and curls up in the very back like a little crescent roll.

Peggie Is Looking For A human who:

  • Is home most of the time
  • Loves to snuggle
  • Doesn’t mind being used as a recliner
  • Can manage a slow walker / stroller rider
  • Has patience, humor, and a soft heart
  • Doesn’t mind a tiny dog with a big personality

Peggie may be small, but she’s got a gigantic heart. She’s survived a lot, and she loves hard. She’ll bond intensely with her person, follow you everywhere, adore you endlessly, and make you laugh every single day.

If you’re looking for a dog who is cute, ridiculous, brave, clingy, loving, dramatic, and sweet all rolled into one…Peggie is your girl. Fill out an adoption application at www.northstarpets.org, then come and meet this very special girl!

More about this rescue

In many areas of the country, especially in the South, the situation for animals is desperate: Chained outside and starving, homeless and running loose, or just simply no longer wanted and abandoned in an overburdened and underfunded facility that can’t possibly take another. For these animals, there is not much hope…except to look in the night sky for the North Star, their only way out. We are a group of passionate volunteers committed to saving these innocent dogs and finding them a new forever home. NorthStar Pet Rescue was founded in 2017, and although we might be a relatively new name among New Jersey animal rescues, you may recognize some of us from the work we’ve done volunteering with other rescues to help animals over the past decade. We are 100% dedicated to operating in an safe, transparent, and ethical manner and to ensuring the best veterinary practices are followed with regards to the care and transport of our animals. NorthStar Pet Rescue is IRS 501(c)(3) charitable organization (EIN: 81-5348036).
