My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi, my name is Georgia — but you can call me Georgie!
I’m a happy, soulful gal with a big heart, a soft brindly coat, and the sweetest “mud mask” face you ever did see. I’m the kind of dog who’ll bring equal parts laughter and love into your home — part couch potato, part squeaky toy enthusiast, and 100% loyal companion.

When I’m happiest, you’ll catch me rolling on my back, toy in mouth, tail thumping against the floor like a drumbeat of pure joy. I love to be part of the family action, whether that’s chilling on the couch, going for a walk, or lounging on the kitchen floor just to be near you. I also happen to believe, with my whole heart, that I’m a lap dog. If there’s an open lap nearby, you can bet I’ll find it and settle right in for some snuggles.

I’m an excellent house guest — crate-trained (I even put myself to bed sometimes!), house-trained, and a perfect walker. I like to stay right by my foster parent's side, and while I’m still figuring out this whole “exercise” thing, I’m always up for an adventure once I get going.

I share my home with a 15-year-old senior pup, and I’m super respectful of her space — I totally get that she needs her quiet time. I also have a savvy three-year-old human buddy whom I adore! I think I’d do best with slightly older kiddos, just because I sometimes get a little bouncy when I’m excited.

Oh, and did I mention cats? I love them! I even bring the resident cat toys and give him kisses. I’d be over the moon if my future cat sibling wanted to play with me, but I’m happy just coexisting too.

My favorite activities? Tug-of-war, squeaky toys (I’ve just learned how to de-stuff them — what a revelation!), and snoozing in a sunny spot or curled up on the couch. I’m a classic pittie mix: playful in bursts, but mostly a sweet, calm soul who just wants to love and be loved.

A few quirks make me extra special — vacuums and fast-spinning toys make me a little squirrelly! I like to boop them, thinking I can get them to turn on and play chase with me. I also like to announce visitors with a few cheerful barks (so apartment living might not be my jam). Otherwise, I’m a quiet, gentle girl who’s just waiting for my person.

If you’re looking for the dog of your dreams — affectionate, smart, funny, and endlessly loyal — that’s me. I can’t wait to meet you and show you what a good girl I am.

HISTORY
Georgie was originally with another rescue, but when her foster lost their home, she ended up back in the shelter — we scooped her up and promised her she’d never be without love again.

HEALTH
Georgie is up-to-date on vaccinations, microchipped, spayed, and heartworm negative.

PHYSICAL
Georgie has a faint brown-and-black brindly coat with a soft “mud mask” face and silky, floppy ears. She’s currently working on slimming down a bit and already looking fabulous!

Adoption Process

  • Fill out an adoption interest application HERE.

  • Our goal is finding lifelong, loving homes for our animals, so we try to find the best match between animal and adopter. We can help advise you on which animals to meet based on your situation.

  • You can meet some of our animals at our weekend adoption events, or we can arrange for a meeting in the foster home. If it’s a good match, the foster parent will come to visit your home in person. This is to make sure your home is safe and secure for a new companion animal.

  • Note: IAR makes every effort to please our adopters, but our first concern must be for the animal’s welfare. We reserve the right to deny any application.

More about this rescue

IAR started with one woman's big dreams, a bigger heart, and a very distinctive purple pickup truck that helped her rescue countless of unwanted, abused, and homeless Triangle pets. Originally founded in 1994, IAR earned an official 501(c)(3) status in 1995. We are governed by a Board of Directors, managed by elected officers, and introduced IAR’s first paid position, General Manager, in June 2021. This role will assist with elevating our collective compassion to new heights and strengthening IAR’s impact as a whole.

Our mission is to rescue and provide safe and responsible care for homeless, abandoned, and abused animals. We shall strive to help all animals in need through our service programs. We will serve our communities through promotion of spay/neuter for all companion animals, and the education of children and adults in humane care, respect and responsibility for animals on this earth.
