My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Veruka is a cat who appreciates variety - the spice of life. She loves sunbathing on top of her cat tree as well as lying under the couch. She’ll cuddle up to you for some pets but will also pounce on toys with vigor. In other words, she’s got it all! While she can be standoffish at first, once she gets comfortable, she’ll be exploring every nook and cranny. She’ll be fond of following you around (especially around meal time), but also appreciates her time alone.

She loves attention, but doesn’t need it 24/7. You can look forward to a cat that will sit in your lap or on the couch with you. If she’s feeling mischievous, she may hang around your laptop as well. Here’s a hint from me to you - she loves scritches on her chin!

She has a hard time with new people visiting, but we are sure that with some time she will come to like guests as well. She is very sweet once she gets to know you - she might even flop over and do a little roll for your attention!

If you let her into your heart, she will definitely spice your life up!

This cat would prefer to be adopted alone and be the only cat in the home.

More about this rescue

Our rescue group was formed in December 2007, but all our Board Members have had extensive experience rescuing and working with abandoned animals. We often work with other rescue organizations to find appropriate and safe foster and adoptive homes for our pet clients. We regularly go to areas with abandoned animals and collect them. The animals are taken to a licensed veterinarian examined, treated and spayed or neutered. Every effort is made to work with the animal and our foster and adoptive families to find a suitable forever home.

For those animals who are truly wild and feral, we release the animal in a safe and secure location after it has recovered from its medical treatment. We also work with certified wildlife rehabilitators to rescue injured and orphaned wildlife. Our organization is focused on improving the welfare of the abandoned animals in need of help in Brooklyn. In furthering that goal, our resources are focused on the animals.

Aside from a few minimal overhead costs such as our website and phone services, our entire budget is spent on animal care such as medical and food costs.
