Meet Volkie! Volkie is a 4-year-old Black Mouth Cur with a big heart and an even bigger personality. This handsome boy loves adventure just as much as he loves cuddles — whether it’s a walk by the river, a camping trip, or curling up on the couch as the little spoon, Volkie is happiest when he’s with his person.
He’s a smart pup who knows his commands in both English and German (and listens best to German!). Volkie is relatively low-energy day to day but plays hard when it’s time for fun. He loves tug-of-war and fetch, and his favorite toys are stuffed animals — especially ducks and octopuses — though he can’t resist removing all the stuffing. He’s a blanket-lover too, though it’s a supervised privilege since he sometimes decides they’re snacks.
A true fashionista, Volkie enjoys showing off his style in sweaters, puffers, and even cozy pajamas when it’s chilly. He’s also a talker — expressive, vocal, and full of opinions, especially when he’s feeling playful or wants attention.
Volkie is gentle with children and loves to show affection with kisses and “corn-cobbing.” He walks well on leash but can pull when he gets excited, so he’ll do best with someone who can confidently handle him. He should be kept leashed outdoors or in a fully fenced yard since he’s a bit of a runner and can’t resist chasing squirrels or birds.
When left home alone, Volkie is calm and content, but being away from home without his person can make him anxious — a calming treat and a busy toy like a frozen Kong help him settle.
Volkie is a loyal, loving companion who wants nothing more than time, attention, and a family to share his adventures with. If you’re looking for a smart, affectionate, slightly goofy best friend to fill your days with love (and a few giggles), Volkie is your boy.
My adoption fee of $50 includes up-to-date vaccinations, dewormer, and heartworm/flea prevention. Plus, a microchip that is already registered to you! What more could you ask for? If you`d like to meet me, please fill out an application on our website, PawmettoLifeline.org.
Adoptions are by appointment Tuesday through Thursday. On Fridays and Saturdays, you’re welcome to walk in anytime between 10:00am and 5:00pm. Please note that we’re closed for adoptions on Sundays and Mondays.
