My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Ichi! He’s the cutie patootie one eyed wonder. Ichi recently spent a few weeks in foster care so that we could learn more about him.

Ichi is fearful of strangers so he’s more of a ‘dinner and a movie’ guy rather than a ‘love at first sight’ guy. Once he trusts his person, he is very bonded and wants to follow his person everywhere. He is crate trained and sleeps all night in his crate without making a peep. He’s been doing great with potty training but needs to go outside as soon as he comes out of his crate and at regular intervals during the day. Since he wasn’t potty trained before foster care, he will need some follow up potty training in his new home. Keeping him on a consistent potty schedule at first will ensure his success!

He was born with an underdeveloped eye that never worked and just caused him pain. Our shelter vets removed his eye so he can live his life in comfort. He could never see out of that eye, so he is happy it’s gone.

Ichi stays very close to his person on leash, a little too close! He is working on building his confidence to venture out into the front.

Ichi has met lots of dogs in our shelter playgroups and done well. We think he would enjoy a playful female canine companion in his new home. He’s shared his shelter suite with multiple dogs at the shelter. His current gal pal and he can be found wrestling and enjoying their time together. His foster home has multiple dogs and he really loves the female dogs. We haven’t seen him with cats but we can give you information on safe and slow introductions.

He absolutely loves foster mom. He’s a little wary of foster dad, but he’s learning to trust him more and learn that foster dad is a fun trustworthy guy that has yummy snacks. We haven’t seen him with kids, but we think he would likely be overwhelmed, so we don’t recommend a home with kids for him. He’s doing better and better all the time, and we know that with a loving committed adopter, he’ll be happy to live his best life. He’ll need some patience from his new adopters, but he promises he’s worth the work!
