My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

RescueCats, Inc.

Date of birth: 10/28/24.

Panda

This sweet girl was a stray, starving and homeless at the beginning of this summer. Not much more than a kitten herself, she became (or already was) pregnant and had a litter of 5 kittens outdoors around the end of June, which she moved from place to place to protect them. She finally put them all under a shed where no one could reach them (except her). When the owners of the shed discovered her and the babies, they immediately began feeding her so she could nurse. Even though she was starving and terrified--no one could get anywhere near her, as she would hiss and swat at people--she was an incredible little mamma to her babies, taking wonderful care of all of them and protecting them even from those trying to help her.

Over the rest of the summer, she gradually began trusting the couple who were feeding her and the kittens (this couple would have loved to have kept her, but they've previously taken in a stray with medical issues who is on prescription food, and couldn't). Panda has since developed the sweetest personality and LOVES to be stroked, rubbed, petted, massaged, or just rub against someone's leg. She'd rather have affection than food, usually!

Panda is still shy, and will often stay just out of arm's length if she thinks you're going to pick her up--but once you do, she nestles in your arms as long as her head is being scratched, petted, or rubbed. She's not yet comfortable staying in your lap for very long--even when rubbed--but if you put her on the couch or chair beside you and just stroke all the way from her head down her back to her tail, she arches her back and just purrs and purrs (which she also had to learn to do--she never purred or played previously). She is starting to come when called, and would follow the lady who was taking care of her. She's been getting a tablespoon or two of wet food in the morning with dry food out and available all the time. She's litter-box trained.

Panda would do best in a home with someone who's gentle and patient with her and earns her trust. She's been with her babies for the last four months, so she's used to other cats--but she is likely to be timid and stand-offish at first. Because of all she's gone through this year, she totally deserves a home and family who will spoil her and shower her with kindness and affection.

She is spayed, treated for fleas & worms, tested negative for FeLV/FIV  & vaccinated for RCP, Rabies and microchipped.

More about this rescue

RescueCats is here for this reason. We are a non-profit, no-kill organization providing temporary care for orphaned and owner released kittens and house cats. A safe indoor shelter, veterinary care, food/water & lots of love is given to each animal until a suitable home with a loving family can be found. Spaying and neutering & educating the public about the proper treatment of animals is our main focus. We are a limited-access facility; when one kitten or cat is adopted, another is taken in. Kittens and cats are not put to sleep unless they are too ill or injured to recover. Adoption fees, relinquishment fees and private donations are our only source of revenue to support the cats.
