My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

ADOPTION PENDING!!Leo arrived from Ireland on December 3rd. He is a handsome. gentle, and good natured boy who gets along well with other dogs. He has a wonderful temperament, is sweet and friendly, and would suit just about any situation. All in all, Leo is a cool customer! Not much phases Leo. He does not react to loud noises such as the garbage truck or the vacuum cleaner. We have tested him, and Leo is not good with cats, so he will need to go to a no-cat home. Leo's registered name is Ballyhimiken Leo. He raced 27 times in Ireland and won 8 times, so he was a successful racer. Leo has been chosen for the Greyhound Advancement Center's training program, so he will know all of his basic commands when he graduates at the end of January. For more information on Leo or the prison training program, please go to our website, www.bayareagreyhounds.org, and check out Prison Trained Greyhounds. Let us know if you would like to meet Leo and reserve him for your own before he goes to the prison on December 19th. Just e-mail or call, 813-935-3247 to arrange a visit to see him.

Additional adoption info

Our adoption process is easy! You complete and submit an Application to Adopt, on-line through our website. If you have pets, they will need to be spayed or neutered, current on vaccines, and on heartworm preventative. If you rent, you will need to have permission from your landlord to have a dog the size of a greyhound. After your application is approved, you will have an opportunity to meet the greyhound you have chosen and to make sure that he or she and your pets are compatible. Adoption fees range from $250 for seniors (age 7 ad older). We have a limited number of "prison trained" greyhounds who will be trained in all their basic commands. The adoption fee depends on our price for shipping from Ireland. and is listed on the profile for each dog.

The adoption fee partially defrays the veterinary costs we incur. Before adoption, your greyhound will be spayed or neutered, have had his or her teeth cleaned, received all vaccines, Bordetella (to guard against kennel cough), had a routine fecal check and wormed if necessary, have been micro chipped, and have been started on heartworm preventative. You will also receive a leash and collar, adoption guide, grooming glove, stuffie toy, turn-out muzzle, BAGA ID tag, toothbrush, and oral gel.

Go meet their pets

Please check out website, www.bayareagreyhounds.org for a list of adoption events each month. Since all of our greyhounds are fostered in individual homes, they are not in one central location. If you are interested in meeting a particular greyhound you see on Adoptapet.com, please call us for a location where that greyhound may be seen (813)935-3247.

More about this rescue

Bay Area Greyhound Adoptions was founded in July 2004 for the purpose of finding pet homes for retired racing greyhounds of for those greyhounds who never qualified for the track. We are recognized as a 501(c)(3) charitable organization and all contributions are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law. We are an all-volunteer organization and all funds we raise go directly to help greyhounds in need. To date, we have found homes for almost 2,000 greyhounds.

All of our greyhounds are prison trained and know their basic commands. We also have a few seniors who are pes that are returned from adoptive homes.
