Deja came to us after being trapped outside — a big, beautiful black cat surviving in a world that was too uncertain for her gentle heart. From the start, it was clear she was sweet… but scared. The kind of cat who wants love, yet doesn’t quite know how to ask for it.
At the shelter, the noise and constant activity were overwhelming. She would hiss when she felt threatened — not out of aggression, but fear.
Now, Deja is in a foster home, where life is quieter and she’s able to relax. Her foster mom reports that Deja will snuggle on her lap, melting into calm contentment once she’s gently picked up and placed there. She won’t jump up on her own, but place her there and she’s all in. A true lap cat… you just have to take the first step.
Deja is about 5 years old, low-maintenance, and not interested in toys or chaos. She’s what we lovingly call a “spirit cat” — always nearby, quietly present, comforting just by being there. She isn’t aggressive, just shy. She may hiss if she feels threatened, but it fades quickly when she realizes she’s safe.
She’s been in our care for two months now, waiting patiently for someone who understands that love doesn’t always announce itself loudly. Deja is looking for a calm home and a special person — someone willing to meet her where she is, to gently lift her into their lap, and show her that she’s finally home.
We know that person is out there. And when they find Deja, it won’t just feel like adoption — it will feel like it was always meant to be.
