My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

How this pet arrived:
Lumen and Tanooki were brought in by their previous owner on August 29, 2025.

Why this pet is the one for you:
Meet Tanooki (#964474) and Lumen (#964473), a sweet bonded pair of cats who must go home together. These two are inseparable and share a special connection, bringing double the companionship to the right family. Both can be shy and a bit fearful when first settling in, so patience and understanding are essential. A quiet home without dogs or children will help them feel safe and secure. The key to helping Tanooki and Lumen acclimate is starting them in a safe room. This calm, controlled space allows them to build trust at their own pace. Low-pressure interactions-gentle visits, food, delicate play, and treats-along with plenty of cozy hiding spots will help them blossom. Once comfortable, their personalities really come out. Tanooki is a certified snack detective with a nose for food and a talent for stealing it - no crumb is safe! He firmly believes all snacks are his snacks, so no hand-feeding for this little rascal, and be sure to keep food tucked away and secure. Lumen is his devoted partner-in-crime, usually nearby and happy just enjoying his company. Progress may take time, but patient adopters will be rewarded with the joy of watching these two grow more confident every day. When it's time for their journey home, please remember to bring two top-loading carriers to make travel smooth and stress-free for this lovable duo!

At SDHS:
Lumen has been vaccinated, microchipped and spayed. She is now ready for adoption!

More about this shelter

San Diego Humane Society, an open-admission shelter, is creating a more humane world by inspiring compassion and advancing the welfare of animals and people. Our lifesaving safety net has helped San Diego become the largest city in the U.S. to keep healthy and treatable shelter animals from being euthanized. We are a private, independent, nonprofit organization that is not affiliated with any other humane society or society for the prevention of cruelty to animals.

With campuses in El Cajon, Escondido, Oceanside, Ramona and San Diego, we provide animal services for 14 cities within San Diego County. We not only care for 50,000 animals in our communities but also share the expertise we have gained through our innovative programs with shelters nationwide so they can save more lives in their communities.

While our influence is expanding nationally, our top priority is meeting the needs of San Diego. We provide exceptional care for all animals through world-class veterinary medicine, shelter and most of all: love.
