Leo My owner found me as a stray kitten eight years ago, and I have lived with her ever since. I`m a smallish, solid grey DSH boy. I`ve never lived with other animals or children. My owner surrendered me to the HSHC on September 14 due to allergies, but I think she lost interest in me. If you ask any cat expert, they will say I am a very typical, highly desirable cat. I enjoy wand toys and things I can bat around on the floor. I will hide from strangers, but I am very affectionate once I know you. I am not an escape artist, and you can pick me up and carry me around. I use my litter box and scratching posts skillfully. I can be a very vocal fellow. I am not a fan of nail trims, belly rubs, or lengthy brushing sessions. My owner used to bop me on the nose for eating plants and spray me with water to deter behaviors. Did you know current cat behaviorists say these techniques are not recommended? When I arrived at the HSHC, I was utterly terrified. I panicked during my initial examination, hissing, swatting, and trying to run away. I had never been neutered, so that surgery was a big shock! Lucky for me, the folks at the shelter understood that I needed a lengthy time to adjust and get comfortable. The interviewer lady (IL) was very patient with me during every visit and never forced me to interact with her. Eventually, I let her pet my head and neck. I even flopped onto my side to allow for full-body pets. However, throughout the session, I kept darting wide-eyed looks at the noisy cat across the room. I`ve never seen so many cats in my life! In summary, I am a delightful cat, well-behaved and friendly, who takes a while to show my true colors. If you don`t mind a shy guy, I think you`ll fall hook, line, and sinker for me. The IL did! 12-2-25

With an open admission policy, a No-Kill philosophy, and more than 3,100 animals crossing our threshold each year, we have still maintained a 98% placement rate over the last 3 years.
This is an amazing feat for any organization…let alone one that takes in some of the most abused, injured and seriously ill animals imaginable.
