My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Bennie and Billy are an adorable 7-month old duo looking for their forever people to love!

These two are the sweetest little guys. If you're looking for friendly, low-maintenance, no-drama cats, let me introduce you to the fabulous Billy and Bennie!

Bennie loves to be around people! Every time I look at him, I think of the song lyric from The Little Mermaid - ""I want to be where the people are..."". This handsome dude is confident and independent and can keep himself occupied, but keep a watch out....turn your attention away for a second, and you may find Bennie quietly sitting at your feet looking up at you with his big blue-green eyes and letting out a barely audible meow which means, ""I'm here and ready to be picked up!""

When you do pick him up, his purr motor will be going immediately and he'll snuggle right into your arms or crawl up into the crook of your neck where he may decide you need some grooming. His favorite toys are springs. He will chase and carry them around for hours.

Billy seems to be more aloof than Bennie, but that's an illusion. He loves people just as much as his brother and likes to check in with his people during the day (and at night when you're sleeping). He waltzes up, chirps out a hello, stretches up for some pets and head butts, then goes on his way...unless you have time to pick him up for a good snuggle–then he settles in for some love and rewards you with his big purr.

This guy is a little panther; he is almost entirely black, smooth and sleek. He is just as happy watching birds outside at the feeder (one of his fave pastimes) as he is watching hockey or Cat TV. He is a little more vocal than Bennie, but they are both quiet cats.

How do we tell the brothers apart? Bennie has a large white patch visible on his chest and is the smaller of the two brothers. He also has some rusty undertones and visible stripes when the sun hits him just right and, of course, those wonderful blue-green eyes.

Billy is longer and is almost completely black. He has a few white hairs at the tip off his tail and a few white hairs on his chest and the classic green cat eyes.

These two are typical older kittens. They love to play, but don't have to be constantly supervised or entertained. They have a regular afternoon nap time, then they get busy again in the evenings. They play solo, with each other, with us, and with our resident cats.

They do get a little rambunctious around 10 pm, but soon enough they settle down and will curl up at the foot of the bed with a few little check-ins by your faces throughout the night.
These well-mannered guys wait patiently for their food and have had zero problems using the litterbox. They are still learning what is okay to jump up on (furniture, yes. countertops and curtains, no), but it's so hard when you're discovering your new jumping skills!

The B Team, as we call this lovely pair, are living in a single-family home with two adults, two sometimes home/sometimes not college students, and three resident cats (two males and one female). They get along with everyone, allowing the older cats to groom them, snuggle, and play with them, but seem to have the instincts to know when to give the other cats their space. We have introduced them to younger (elementary school aged) kids and after a few moments to get
adjusted to the faster movements and louder sounds, the boys jumped in and started playing with gusto.

Bennie and Billy would be a wonderful addition to any home. They are easygoing, friendly, and low-maintenance. They would be perfect for families with kids over 5 who will play with them but also give them some alone time.

I can also see them being a great pair for new cat owners or even empty-nesters since they have each other for company and playtime. Everything people love about cats can be found in these two sweeties!

You'll get snuggles, BIG purrs, some kitten shenanigans, and some grown-up behaviors all in one adorable package! They would probably adjust to living with a cat-savvy dog, given time.
One thing that is a must are windows, preferably with bird feeders outside. These two, but especially Billy, love to watch bird feeders and can spend hours staring out the window.

If you’d like these two ideal companions to join your family this winter, the B-Team is excited to brighten your day!

There is no guarantee of age and breed as a rescue animal's history is unknown. All ages and breeds are best estimates.

Additional adoption info

Pet Haven is a foster-based rescue. Our animals live with foster families until they are placed in permanent homes and their foster families get to know the dogs and cats learning important information about the animals. For example, the foster family will know if the dog or cat is good with other animals or children, and will have a good idea of what kind of training, attention, and special needs the pet may require. This makes our foster families great resources for potential adopters!

More about this rescue

Our Mission
Pet Haven improves the lives of pets and the people who love them by rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming dogs and cats; reducing pet overpopulation by supporting spay and neuter efforts, and providing resources to people that help strengthen the human-animal bond.

Our Vision
A Minnesota where all pets live in safe, loving homes.

Our Values
Excellence in service and care; community; integrity; innovation; perseverance; compassion; a rewarding place to volunteer

How We Help
Spay/Neuter Initiative Program: Providing support to end pet overpopulation in Minnesota
Owner Surrender: Providing a safe haven for pet owners
Foster: Committed to finding forever homes for cats and dogs
Phoenix Fund for Special Needs: Providing veterinary care for animals in need of healing
What We Do
We help dogs and cats find homes with loving families through foster-based care. Every dog and cat lives with a foster family until they find their forever families. We provide all of their basic needs including proper food, veterinary care, behavior training, and supplies.

Through in-home fostering, we learn about each animal’s temperament, personality, likes/dislikes, and any medical needs. With this first-hand information, we can then find the right family for each dog and cat.

Our volunteers also educate the public on responsible companion animal care and represent respect for animals at all times. Whether we’re working with prospective new families, meeting people at public events, or socializing with friends and family, we encourage others to view and treat their pets as members of the family. We are their guardians, and they depend on us for companionship and care.

We spay/neuter prior to adoption.
We microchip all our Pet Haven Pets and remain as a secondary contact.
We make sure all pets are up to date on required vaccinations
We test for Heartworm and Lymes in all our dogs and are transparent in the results and treament
We test for FeLV/FIV and are transparent in the results. We believe that cats who test positive still deserve a chance at a quality home.
We do not euthanize animals unless they have untreatable health or behavioral conditions that deny them an acceptable quality of life or makes them a serious threat to people, other animals, or themselves.
How We Operate
We rely on adoption fees, tax-deductible donations, grants, and special events to keep our rescue operating. Our staff, Board of Directors, and volunteers have provided the passion and commitment to keep Pet Haven a safe haven for animals for almost 70 years.

We are committed to preventing pet homelessness through the SNIP Grant. Since 2005, we have granted more than $240,000 to organizations in Minnesota to support spay/neuter initiatives.
