S'mores is a three-year-old female rabbit with a bright, outgoing personality. She loves people, seeks attention, and is very docile and affectionate with her humans. She enjoys other rabbits too, though she has a strong personality and does best with a more submissive partner.
She likes having cozy spaces such as wooden huts, tunnels, and hidey-holes. She can be sensitive to noise and prefers a calm environment. She is very food motivated and currently uses a feeding mat to help slow her down during meals. She also has a funny habit of charging household cats to tuck her face under their tummies, which seems to be her way of asking them to submit.
S'mores was adopted from Only Sunshine Sanctuary in February 2025 and is being returned due to overgrooming her bonded mate’s eyes, which led to repeated infections. She has no other known medical issues and was a loving companion overall.
S'mores would thrive in a home that understands rabbit dynamics, can give her a structured and peaceful space, and is open to helping her find the right long-term companion. She is a sweet girl with a big personality and deserves a home where she can feel secure and adored.

Our Story: Our founder, Kristy Venrick-Mardon, always knew she had a passion for working with animals and dreamed of being surrounded by them in her life. She bought the one-acre of land Only Sunshine Sanctuary is on with the intention of being able to work with the land and use it to help any animal that crossed her path. Before she was able to move onto the property, she went to the Sacramento SPCA just to meet a pig that was there because his family had lost their home. That's where she met Harold. She was warned he was shy and not super friendly. Upon meeting him, he instantly rolled over for a belly rub and it was love at first sight. Harold was the first resident to move onto what is now Only Sunshine Sanctuary. Over the years, Kristy continued to help animals when needed, but wanted to be able to reach a wider scope and include the community. That’s why she founded Only Sunshine Sanctuary.
Our Mission: Bring Only Sunshine into the lives of the Earth’s precious creatures. Be a loving, caring force that provides food, shelter, and medical care to animals in need. Encourage like-minded community members to come together to make a positive impact in the lives of all living things.
