Here's what the humans have to say about me:

🐍🦴 Meet Bones the Rat Snake! 🦴🐍

Bones came to J&R Aquatic Animal Rescue on September 5, 2025, after their previous owner ran into housing issues. This little noodle is about a foot long and already eating frozen/thawed pinkie mice with enthusiasm! With their curious personality and beautiful markings, Bones is ready to grow into a confident, full-sized snake in a loving forever home. 🤍

🔍 Rat Snake Quick Care Info (based on ReptiFiles guidelines for Pantherophis spp.):
📏 Adult Size: 4–6 feet
📅 Lifespan: 15–25 years
💤 Temperament: Curious, alert, and generally docile with consistent handling

🏠 Enclosure Size: Minimum 48”L x 24”W x 24”H (120 gallons) for an adult—these snakes love to climb and explore
🌡️ Temps:
– Basking spot: 88–92°F
– Ambient: 75–82°F
💧 Humidity: 50–70% average
💡 Lighting: Low-level UVB (Zoo Med Reptisun 5.0 or Arcadia D3+ 6%) recommended for overall health

🛏️ Substrate: Moisture-retentive mix like Reptisoil, coconut fiber, or soil/sand blend
🌿 Décor: Multiple hides, climbing branches, cork bark, and foliage to explore

🍽️ Diet:
– Hatchlings: Pinkie mice every 5–7 days
– Juveniles: Larger mice every 7–10 days
– Adults: Small rats or large mice every 10–14 days
– Always feed appropriately sized frozen/thawed prey (1.5x body width)

💧 Water: Large, shallow dish for drinking and soaking

Bones may be small now, but with proper care and time, they’ll grow into a stunning, active adult rat snake that’s as rewarding to keep as they are to watch. 🐍✨

More about this shelter

J&R Aquatic Animal Rescue, founded in February 2020, is a compassionate organization dedicated to addressing the issue of unwanted exotic pets.
