Sweet Ernie is a 1 1/2-year-old, 40lb. black mouth cur pup who had a scary start to life. He was surrendered to the shelter at 12 weeks old with the rest of his litter. As all of his litter mates got adopted, no one chose him so he sat alone in the shelter for months deteriorating mentally. Due to this lack of socialization early in life, he is extremely fearful. Ernie needs other dogs to thrive and would do well in a home that has consistent structure and other dogs to teach him how to dog. He is fearful of humans and takes time to trust, but when he does - he is very cute and will boop you with his nose. He is currently attending and socializing in doggy daycare, where he’s coming out of his shell and enjoying play with other dogs his size and larger. He needs other dogs in the home to feel safe . Ernie is crate trained, (mostly) potty trained, does amazing with dogs his size or larger. No cats, and no small dogs please. He sleeps well through the night in his crate, and enjoys the comfort of his crate. He is a healthy young puppy who loves to play with other dogs and toys, such as ropes and squeakies. Once comfortable, he really is the sweetest boy ever! He will need a dedicated family with no very young children (they scare him easily) that will give him a consistent schedule and time to adjust. You will be rewarded in full by his beautiful, silly soul that so desperately just wants to belong. We are requiring a fenced yard for him. If you live in the Central Florida/Orlando area and believe you have the perfect home for Ernie, please complete an app and tell us more about you.
