My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

GIBSON / Male / 5 years / 79lbs / Mixed Breed / Found as a stray / Currently Fostered in Hamilton

Good with other dogs and older kids / Not cat tested / House and crate trained

Meet Gibson – The Gentle Giant with a Heart of Gold!

Gibson is a big, beautiful boy who is equal parts lovebug, couch potato, and distinguished gentleman and hoping to find his perfect forever family soon!

Gibson is a loyal, affectionate companion who wants nothing more than to be where his people are. He’s a total lap dog trapped in a large dog’s body. If you sit down, expect him to climb right in for a snuggle. He’ll expect you to keep one hand free at all times for copious amounts of pets! He thrives on routine and settles into new environments quickly.

Out and about, Gibson is a social butterfly. He loves meeting new people and dogs, greeting everyone with a wag and a smile once he’s had a minute to warm up but he also won’t get particularly interested in people walking by unless you introduce him. He’s a great walking buddy - calm, curious, and happy to take it all in. He enjoys both short strolls and longer adventures, but is typically happy with a couple 20-30 minute walks a day. He loves playing with other dogs and a good squeaky toy, just make sure they’re indestructible because his chewing is a force to be reckoned with!

At home, Gibson is calm, housetrained, and crate trained. He’s okay in the house for short periods, but settles better if he’s in his crate when he’s left alone for long periods. He’s not one to chew furniture, get into food, jump on/over things, or cause trouble - as long as he’s got his comfy bed, he’s content to snooze most of the day. He’s learning to be gentle when taking treats and only needs an occasional reminder when he’s overexcited.

Occasionally, Gibson might bark if he’s startled or feels crowded, but he calms down quickly and is easily redirected. With his size and goofy charm, he’d do best with dog-savvy older kids and could thrive in either a house or an apartment, as long as he gets his daily walks and plenty of love.

If you’re looking for a loyal, loving companion who’ll make you laugh daily, keep your lap warm, and look at you like you hung the moon, Gibson is your guy. He’s ready to find his forever family, one that appreciates a little slobber, a lot of love, and a dog who knows he deserves the finer things in life.

Additional adoption info

To adopt one of our dogs, please fill out an application here (https://caninehaven.org/dog-application/).

Although we do our best to reply to all inquiries within 48 hours, please remember we are a 100% volunteer based organization, and many of us have full time jobs outside of rescue. We appreciate your patience.

Our priority is to ensure the fit is right for both you and the dog, we will reach out to your personal and veterinarian references (if applicable), and your landlord (if applicable). A virtual video or pictures of your place are required at the time of application.

You will then be granted a private meet and greet with the dog. If after the meet and greet, you would like to proceed with adoption, we will review your application internally and with the foster and make a final decision.

More about this rescue

Formed in 2013, a small scale dog rescue located in Ontario. We are a non-profit, volunteer-run, foster home based.

None of our dogs are boarded in kennels upon arrival.

We are dedicated in rescuing dogs from the Caribbean, Mexico and North America as well as local surrenders.

We place dogs in loving, responsible and committed permanent homes, following a comprehensive adoption process.

Animals in our care are spayed or neutered, receive all appropriate veterinary care and treatment and placed in nurturing foster homes while they await placement in their permanent homes.

We assist dogs in distress without regard to age, breed or ease of placement
