Animal Profile: Opal is a 2-year-old, 40 lb black Lab with a sweet and gentle nature. She found herself in a crowded shelter and was at risk of euthanasia, but her loving personality quickly won everyone over. Opal is friendly with people, does well with other dogs, and is now ready to find a safe, loving home to call her own.
Foster Update: Opal is a diamond in the rough. She is a sweet girl who has been warm with older kids and has been good at small gatherings of people in her home but is still shy of strangers and off leash or are unknown to her -- she can bark quite a bit in that circumstance and we are working on that and assessing how best to help her become more confident. She is not high energy, but can keep up on hikes and jogs, and enjoys a good snuggle afterwards. She is a love bug who gently asks for attention by putting her chin on your leg (or shoulder). She is crate trained and good in her crate. She is working on her leash manners so she isn't just zig zagging all over the place. She settles down to nap in the car, but doesn't like to be left alone in the car. She knows sit, down and wait and has learned her name, and is currently learning down. Opal is just the right level of energetic , affectionate and independent. She would make a great companion for someone who can see all her potential and with strong leadership can help her become more confident and be the best she can be.
MA standards, heartworm test if applicable, recent exam with a veterinarian, and microchip with lifetime registration. Your adoption fee may be tax deductible as DGS is a 501c3 organization. All adoption fees go toward the care of all dogs in our rescue.
