My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Simone looks like a queen and acts like one too! With her luscious grey coat and velvety ears she’s at the height of fashion, and her big green eyes always seem to be full of ideas. She is never afraid to speak her mind, and is very songful when she’s ready for food or attention. She is also a big fan of work-life balance - if you’re on your laptop for too long, she’ll saunter over and plop herself right on your keyboard, maybe even typing out a coded message into the chat in the process.

Simone loves always being close by and seeing what is going on, and will often curl up for a nap next to my desk as I work. She isn’t a lap cat yet (though she has been trying it on for size) but certainly loves getting chin scritches, head rubs, and being brushed. She is equally happy with a fancy wand toy and a piece of yarn, and will annihilate that wiggly string with precision! She is calm and doesn’t hide when meeting new people, and it only takes a few minutes for her to warm up. She can get overstimulated if the petting is not to her liking or she gets overwhelmed, so I would recommend a quiet and gentle home (and perhaps a soundtrack of classical music) for Her Majesty.

This cat would prefer to be adopted alone and be the only cat in the home.

More about this rescue

Our rescue group was formed in December 2007, but all our Board Members have had extensive experience rescuing and working with abandoned animals. We often work with other rescue organizations to find appropriate and safe foster and adoptive homes for our pet clients. We regularly go to areas with abandoned animals and collect them. The animals are taken to a licensed veterinarian examined, treated and spayed or neutered. Every effort is made to work with the animal and our foster and adoptive families to find a suitable forever home.

For those animals who are truly wild and feral, we release the animal in a safe and secure location after it has recovered from its medical treatment. We also work with certified wildlife rehabilitators to rescue injured and orphaned wildlife. Our organization is focused on improving the welfare of the abandoned animals in need of help in Brooklyn. In furthering that goal, our resources are focused on the animals.

Aside from a few minimal overhead costs such as our website and phone services, our entire budget is spent on animal care such as medical and food costs.
