My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

HELLO! Did I scare you? No? I think I scared myself actually!

Matilda is ready for adoption but does need a home that will give her time to adjust to living a safe and wonderful life. She and her littermates were dumped and left to fend for themselves. They were starving as they didn't have but the occasional left over food thrown out. One employee at the site fed them when he could but it wasn't every day.

Matilda has adjusted well in the last couple of months, and she is sharing her home with her littermates as well as foster parent's kitties too. However, it's time for her to have a home and family to call her own. She has done very well with her litter box habits and, of course, loves to eat. Once she gets used to you she loves being petted, although she is hesitant at first. IF you have a big heart and are willing to help her adjust to a new home, please consider thinking of her. Black cats don't get enough attention and they have some of the best personalities!

Additional adoption info

Please contact us about our fees, contracts, etc., regarding any pet we have listed. All our pets are spayed/neutered and up to date on shots, etc., unless too young, etc. We do require adopters to be a minimum of 25 years of age.

Adoption through our group does require an application. We know, really an application, but please understand we care for these wonderful creatures in our homes and they become part of our families temporarily. We want only the best for them just like we all want best for our 2 legged children as well. So if you want your babies coming from a group that pets and loves and makes them a temporary part of their family as much as you would, then we just might be the right group for you to find your next addition. We are not trying to judge you and your home. We are trying to judge whether this kitten is appropriate for your home. We want to minimize the chance of our babies (no matter how old) ending up without their family for life because of a bad match. If you feel the way we do about animals, you know that each has their own personality. We've been doing this for 20+ years, so we try hard from the animal's personality to find that right home, the one that lasts forever, so you see we're judging what the animal needs. If you think this works for you, then please continue on. If not, we certainly understand, and there are still some wonderful animals out there that need homes. So, please, visit your local shelters and adopt a pet. We would encourage you as well to consider fostering a 2nd pet temporarily for the shelter, so that it provides space for 1 more life to live a little longer.

Please note, however, we do from time to time help other individual rescuers find homes and advertise for them. These adoptions are handled directly through those individuals and not through our group. Fees imposed by those individuals are in no way distributed back to our group. This is totally a courtesy to that individual rescuer.

Please be sure to have your pets spayed and neutered asap. If you need assistance with ferals or strays, please contact the Richmond SPCA for info.

Go meet their pets

As much as we would love to come out to do adoption stands, manpower is at a premium to find. Adoption stands can be very time consuming but also extremely stressful to the pets we have for adoption. If you find a pet listed on our pet page, just drop us a note. We will be glad to talk with you about the pet and help you decide if he/she is right for your family. From there we can move on to actually having a visit with the pet in a quite, peaceful situation rather than a highly stressful one where you may not see their true personality. No pressure on our part, and we always take our babies back.

More about this rescue

We have been rescuing cats and dogs for over 20 years and working with and also helping other rescue groups and even individuals who rescued abandoned pets. We now have a sanctuary for those hard to place cats from working with other groups and those rescued from feral colonies or abandoned by their owners. Although, we do occasionally take in kittens, we put most of our focus on the older population of cats that are less likely to be adopted, which often means they are with us for a longer period of time. But, we never give up, even older guys can find homes. We hope to find permanent homes for them as we work with them or they will have a lifetime home forever at our sanctuary. We do not euthanize any pet just because it is not adoptable. We also rescue dogs and puppies but on a smaller scale as well as rescue horses, chickens, rabbits, birds, etc., and try to find them loving forever homes too. We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. With older and senior cats who are most often the ones that never find homes our expenses are much more, so any donations are greatly appreciated and tax deductible. Donations are welcomed of any amount, item, food, litter, etc. We are always in need of these items. Monetary donations are always welcome as well to help with medical care for our seniors.
