Hi, I'm Leilani! Your new girl just came down from Heaven and is waiting for you! No really, my name means "Heavenly Child" and I promise I will fully live up to it! I'm a young mama who did a fantastic job getting my eight babies ready to go to their own homes. Now, I'm ready to regain my youth in my new home. I'm a soft beauty with one blue eye and one golden eye. Both eyes will keep a watch on you as I start getting comfortable. Once I'm comfortable, I will take all the chin, head, and ear rubs you can give. I love being brushed from my sweet head all the way down to my back. I'll sit on your lap but might not think of it myself. I love a squeezy treat (e.g. Delectable) as my bedtime snack. I love to play with Cat Dancer, laser light and a new toy called the Mystery Motion toy. I'm very good at it, so you should probably get me one so I can show you. The Naperville Area Humane Society (NAHS) is a non-profit, limited admission animal shelter accepting cats and dogs. Our shelter can house as many as eighteen dogs and forty cats.
Each animal is tenderly cared for at NAHS. Entering a shelter can be stressful or possibly even terrifying to some cats and dogs. Our dedicated and highly trained staff and over 300 volunteers offer compassionate care to each animal and work to address his or her individual needs.
The staff works diligently to match the needs of each pet with a family eager to adopt a dog or cat. While at NAHS, all animals receive basic vaccinations as well as medical care. All animals are neutered or spayed before being released to their new owners. In addition, dogs’ temperaments are thoroughly assessed before being made available for adoption.
Unfortunately, there continues to be far too many cats and dogs needing help in our society. Since we cannot solve this overwhelming problem ourselves, we have evolved our approach to the homeless animal crisis to include innovative community service initiatives, such as humane education and a behavior helpline, while we continue to re-home animals.
