Smudge is a 2-year-old, 53-pound, short and stocky pit with a big personality hiding behind a little caution. He came to us as a stray on 10/17/25, with black soot on his face (hence his name) and signs that he had been living outside. Despite his rough start, Smudge has a lot of love to give—he just needs a patient hand to help him feel safe.
At first, Smudge can be a little apprehensive and reactive in the kennel. Outside of his kennel, however, he has the potential to thrive with the right guidance and support. He would do best in a home where his new family is ready to help him build confidence and trust through positive associations, gentle body handling, and slow introductions to new environments.
What Smudge needs in a home:
Confidence-building training to help him feel safe and secure
Adults or teens 15+ (he can be startled by young kids)
Calm, patient dog companions who move at a slower pace
Precautions like double-leashing for safety, as he may be nervous in new situations
Smudge has shown he may feel more comfortable around women, and with time, love, and patience, he could flourish into the loyal, affectionate companion he was always meant to be.
If you’re looking for a sensitive, thoughtful pup who needs a chance outside the kennel, Smudge might just be the one for you! ??
