Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Anita is a one-of-a-kind velvet house hippo wrapped in an adorable 35-pound package. Just over a year old, this low-slung, medium-sized cutie has the most gorgeous markings, expressive ears, and a spring in her step...literally! Don`t let those short legs fool you; Anita can jump like a pro and loves to play, explore, and make new friends wherever she goes.
Anita has been with a foster family, including a 9-year-old pittie mix foster sister, since December 21st, and she is absolutely shining. After a good morning walk, this little girl is content to snooze most of the day. She has been going out every few hours for a potty break, to reinforce house training, and only had a couple of (expected!) accidents in her first few days!
While she is listed as having special needs for experiencing separation anxiety, she has been working on crate training and is generally calm, cool, and collected when her people are home with her. She is also very willing to take her daily medicine after breakfast (unlike her picky foster sister!) She`s looking for a home with dog experience that can provide patience, structure, and continued training.
Anita rides well in cars, loves food and treats, but is not a beggar, and has tremendous recall. She enjoys playing with her toys, and unlike other pitties that her fosters know (and love!), she doesn`t rip them apart. She also hasn`t chewed anything in the house! She loves peanut butter in her Kong or lick mat. She would appreciate it if you let her sleep in bed with you, and she will reward you with the best cuddles. Her fosters wake up early, take her out to pee, and then she happily returns to bed for a time before her morning walk. If you sleep late, she will no doubt snuggle alongside you.
Anita would thrive in a home where someone is around most of the time and can have the steady companionship she craves. A confident, balanced dog friend would likely help ease her anxiety and show her that being alone isn`t so scary. No young children are recommended, as she`s still learning to manage her big feelings calmly.
Anita has so much love to give and just needs the right person (or people) to help her feel safe, secure, and at home. If you`re looking for a loyal, loving companion who will make every day brighter, Anita Collar may be your perfect match.
Anita is also part of our extended-stay program. Her fee has been waived to help her find her forever home sooner!
