My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Want a fun, loving, eager-to-please and super trainable friend? Arrow is your boy! He is a Shepherd/Pit mix approximately 2 years old, born in 2023.

Arrow loves *PEOPLE*! He also adores his foster parent's six-year-old granddaughter and the feeling is mutual. He hasn't been observed with small children, so we recommend only older kids (age 6+) at this time.  He'd like the little ones just fine, but would require close supervision/training to tone down his enthusiasm and physicality.  For some quirky reason, Arrow is timid or fearful with white-haired gentlemen and some middle-aged men - we're not sure why!  He has enjoyed meeting some younger guys he's encountered.

*DOGS/CATS*  Arrow likes other dogs, but his enthusiasm can be too much for some. He is actively working on that. Arrow does take direction well from older, more confident dogs. Ultimately, he would probably be delighted to have a canine sibling if it's a good match.  He has not been exposed much to cats yet.

*KENNEL*  He kennels very well overnight and for short periods during the day when he knows somoene is home. He is anxious in the kennel when his foster leaves the house for even an hour or two.

*MANNERS*  Arrow generally has good manners for such a young boy. He takes treats gently. He is working on loose-leash walks and gets practice every day.  Arrow encounters many dogs each week and hasn't been reactive or barked/growled even once. He's also been very quiet in the house and yard, but he did bark to alert to a delivery person, so he might make a good watchdog. He rarely jumps up on people and has taken redirection well on the occasions he has attempted it. He's not especially pushy at the front door, but his foster is working on a place command to ensure that doesn't become a problem.

*TRAINING*  His foster parent is super impressed by his ability to learn new things! He is very trainable and that seems to reflect his native intelligence coupled with a very strong food drive. Commands he's learned well so far include touch, sit, down, come, get it, and drop it. He's working hard on bells as a potty alert because he doesn't currently give an audible sign, he just stands quietly by the door.

*FAVORITE THINGS*  Arrow wants nothing more than to please you and he loves to snuggle! At first, he playfully nipped a little during cuddle-time, but he has improved on that.  He loves yak chews, boar's ears, broth-infused frozen carrots, frozen bananas and he snacked on spinach leaves and zucchini. But he's no diva - he's perfectly happy to receive Milkbone-type treats. He plays so well with stuffies that all of the squeakers are still intact. He LOVES to play tug-of-war!!

Arrow has been exposed to fireworks and was very chill.  He didn't seem bothered by the loud noises. What a guy!  We think you'll LOVE Arrow - please consider applying to adopt him today!

The suggested adoption donation for Arrow is $375, which includes a lifetime of free relationship-based training for any behavioral problems (not obedience training).  Muddy Paws is a 501c3 non-profit organization meaning that part of your donation MAY be TAX DEDUCTIBLE. We are a 100% volunteer rescue committed to giving animals a second chance at life. All donations go toward that mission. Adoption fees are the primary source of funding for the cost of veterinary care for our animals. In 2022 alone, we provided animal Healthcare totaling over $399,000 covered mainly through adoption fees.

Before applying to adopt Arrow, you need to be familiar with your local breed-specific legislation regarding Pit Bulls. Applicants must live within 50 miles of the Omaha/Council Bluffs area.

Information about the adoption process:  All adoptions require a completed ADOPTION APPLICATION. Once your application has completed our prescreen steps, we will put you in touch with the animal’s foster to see if you and the pet are a good match. If so, we will arrange a meeting for you and the animal. The adoptions for all of our animals will take place in the Omaha, NE area and must be done by the adoptive family in person. We do not ship or deliver.

Please Note:  We are a RESCUE, which is different from a shelter. We conduct veterinary and personal reference checks, and a Home Visit (Virtual in some cases) during the application approval process. We always select the right applicant for each animal, based on the animal’s needs. If you and the animal are not a good match, we will help you select another animal, or we will keep your approved application on file for 6 months.

More about this rescue

Muddy Paws Second Chance Rescue, Inc. is a not for profit organization formed in 2014 by a small group of devoted animal lovers, in the Council Bluffs/Omaha area, with many years of rescue experience wanting to make a difference in the lives of dogs. Our rescue focuses on small breed dogs, less than 35 pounds, of any age. It is all volunteer based, and all of our rescue dogs are living in the homes of our volunteers.
Our rescue is unique in that we offer supportive services, such as education and training, to owners considering relinquishing their pet in an effort to try to keep the dog in their home whenever possible. We also educate and offer placement assistance to owners attempting to rehome their pets through social media sites, which can often be risky for the pets as well as the owners.
