Here's what the humans have to say about me:
This animal is currently in Pflugerville.
Rosie was rescued by a veterinarian's husband who found her in the road after being hit by a car. Her shell was cracked. They fixed her shell and rehabbed her. She is missing a back foot that appears to either be congenital or from a long time ago, but because of this, they didn't think we could release her back into the wild. She loves to be rubbed along the bottom of her neck. Loves worms and little bits of strawberry. She'll eat greens but devours everything else first! Her age is an estimate.
She was adopted then returned (couldn't keep her safe). She has a lot of shell damage that our vet said is healthy, healed deep injury. It is likely from her incident with the car 3 years ago. She is healthy and shows us that she is one resilient little lady.
Every time a box turtle comes to the rescue, we promise that animal that it will have the best care and that it will always be able to live outdoors where it can enjoy natural sunlight, dirt deep enough for burrowing in, lots of plants and other hiding places, clean fresh water, and a chance for hunting and grazing as if it were in the wild. We can't break my promise to any of these wonderful creatures, so if you choose to open your home and heart to one of them you are extending the same promise to the animal that you adopt. We search for families that can provide at least 100 square feet of space, even if they're only adopting one box turtle (but up to three can live in a space that size after careful observation to ensure they get along with one another). They must have hides, some shade, sturdy enclosure walls and a water source/dish
If you submit photos of your box turtle habitat (with a piece of paper with your name on it or some other form of authentication in the same frame as the habitat) then we will review your application, otherwise your application will expire in 30 days without being reviewed. Pictures should be e-mailed to contact@texastortoiserescue.com (this is the only way to submit your photos - please don't text them or send them over Facebook). Once your application has been reviewed and approved, you will receive an e-mail that has a link to our calendar so that you can schedule the pick up at a time that is convenient for you. The adoption fee for box turtles is $75, payable through the adoption link you will receive via text during the adoption or by cash at the time when you pick up the animal.
