Meet Lua! This girl is bursting with energy, and is just shy of 2 years old, so if you are looking for an energetic gal without having to deal with the actual puppy phase... She's your gal!
Lua has the sweetest face we've ever seen. She came in very skinny, and we have slowly been fattening her up for the winter so she will be the perfect cuddle partner. The shelter environment has been stressful for her, and she deserves somebody who is ready to break her out! She's been on several field trips and had raving reviews. She absolutely loves playing with tennis balls, sniffing for treats in a snuffle mat, playing tug, and exploring the world out on walks. She is working on her confidence with other dogs and may enjoy having a friend who she can have play dates with, but we recommend that she be a single dog in the home at this time. She is working on her confidence and may be open to a dog roomie someday! We don't know how she does with cats or with small children, but we do know that she loves her human friends. Come bring your family down, or hey, even just yourself-- and meet her today!

Adopters can stop in during open hours to find their new pet! There may be different criteria based on the individual animal.
2.
Submit Application
Our application is more of a survey in person. We find out more about your home and lifestyle to make sure the adoption will be fur-ever.
3.
Meet the Pet
We will provide you with all the information on the pet and then set you up with a space to interact with your potential new best friend.
4.
Sign Adoption Contract
Super easy and can be done through your phone!
5.
Pay Fee
Yep! Fees vary based on age and species.
6.
Take the Pet Home
So long as the pet is already spayed/neutered, they can go home the same day as adoption. Congratulations!
Additional adoption info
We invite you to visit the shelter locations and meet the animals and the adoption team!
Our adoption process is aimed at matching you, your family and your current pets with our animals for adoption. An adoption counselor will introduce you to our animals in a private meeting room. We will share information about the animal's medical and behavioral needs as well as their history.
When you find the right pet for you and your family, the adoption counselor will assist you in completing the proper paperwork. This process includes signing an adoption contract, reviewing medical history and providing proper pet care information.
What you will need in order to adopt:
A valid photo ID with your current address.
We recommend all members of the household meeting the animal before adopting.
If you are interested in adopting a dog and have other dog(s) living in your household, it is recommended that all dogs meet each other at the shelter.
Certain animals require additional steps or requirements.
Adoption fee is accepted in cash or credit/debit card. Checks, American Express, Discover, Care Credit are not accepted as payment.
PLEASE NOTE: We are not able to place a hold or accept a deposit for animals that are not available for adoption, that you have not done a formal meet and greet with, or over the phone. Adoptions are approved for the first qualified home. Adoption is not guaranteed and is at the discretion of Humane Animal Rescue of Pittsburgh.
