My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Winnie, a sweet and petite 13-pound Dachshund, approximately 2-3 years old.

We are looking for a dedicated family willing to work with her on some areas where she still needs confidence.

We believe Winnie would do better in a home with a fenced back yard as she feels safe to go potty there, and she does like to sit outside in the sun. So apartment living will not be considered.

What Makes Winnie Special?

-The Ultimate Snuggler: Once she knows you, Winnie is a total lovebug who adores snuggling with her people.
-House Trained Pro: She is 100% potty trained! With a consistent routine and regular outdoor breaks, she reliably potties outside.
-Crate Trained: Winnie is perfectly crate trained and sleeps soundly through the night in her crate.
-Dog-Friendly (Mostly): She is wonderful with male dogs. She has, however, shown jealousy toward the female dog in her current foster home, so Winnie must be adopted into a home without another female dog.

Where Winnie Needs a Little Help

Winnie's world was very small before she came to rescue, and she will need a patient family to help her blossom:

-Stranger Danger: When new people come to the home, Winnie is nervous. She will bark, retreat, and hide. She needs a patient family who can allow her the time and space to observe and decide for herself that the stranger is not a threat. She will come out to investigate once she feels safe. A commitment to working on her confidence is a must.

-Leash Skills: We believe Winnie was never walked on a leash outside her home. She is making progress—she can now have a harness and leash put on and walk outside but noises, strangers coming towards her and loud cars scare her.

A Note on Her Health and Commitment

As a Dachshund, Winnie's new family must be vigilant in protecting her back from injury. If you allow dogs on furniture, you must provide ramps or stairs to help her get on and off safely.

Winnie deserves a home that will be her only home. Please remember that at 2-3 years old, Winnie is a 14-year commitment. If you cannot commit to having her live with YOU for ALL of her life, she is not the right dog for you.

If you have a quiet home, a patient heart, and the dedication to help Winnie build her confidence, please apply. Remember she needs a fenced yard. As she is scared easily no small children. No other female dogs in the home. Cats okay.

Winnie will go to the best fit for her, not the first person to apply. The rescue will work with you to help Winnie become the best dog she can be.

Located in Boise, Idaho. Will not be adopted out of state.
