My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Introducing Cutthroat Katie, a super friendly, and adventurous feline with a beautiful spirit-and a heart as soft as her fur. Don't let her pirate-worthy title fool you; Katie is one of the most affectionate cats you'll ever meet, always eager to curl up beside you or nuzzle your hand for a bit of love and attention. She has a playful streak and a fearless curiosity that leads her to explore every shelf, box, and corner she can find, making her a delightful companion for anyone who enjoys a little mischief mixed with a lot of love. Despite having had most of her teeth removed, Katie insists on eating only dry food, stubbornly refusing wet food no matter how gourmet the offering-proving that she knows exactly what she likes and isn't afraid to stick to it. Her independent streak only adds to her charm, and while she may have a few quirks, they only make her more lovable. Unfortunately, along with bad dental genetics, Katie has also been faced with several health issues including upper respiratory infection. As a result, she is best as an only cat or in a home with other cats who have also been exposed to this infection and should be kept as indoor only. She will make an amazing, lucky companion to a lucky guardian(s).

The Chilliwack Branch is an Animal Protection Centre for pets who have been rescued from abusive or neglectful homes. The Centre is open to the public by appointment only due to the security issues associated with housing animals awaiting the outcome of legal proceedings. We will accept surrendered animals by appointment only, and we are open for adoptions on special occasions.

The BC SPCA is a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting and enhancing the quality of life for domestic, farm and wild animals in British Columbia. Through its locations and operations across the province the BC SPCA provides emergency medical care and sheltering for more than 37,000 animals each year. The society also conducts more than 4,600 cruelty investigations and provides a wide range of advocacy and education programs for domestic, farm and wild animals through its Provincial Office.

Our mission, vision and charter is at the heart of all we do to rescue, protect and care for animals. It is also the driving force behind our animal welfare and education programs.

Our Charter:

The BC SPCA Charter is the foundation that guides the work we do:

Whereas:

The world is inhabited by many species sharing a common ecosystem of air, earth, and water. We recognize and value our interconnectedness with all animals.

Therefore:

The BC Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is dedicated to protecting and enhancing the quality of life for the animals of the world we share.

We pledge our energies to inspire and mobilize society to create a world in which all animals, who depend on humans for their well-being, experience, as a minimum, five essential freedoms:

1. Freedom from hunger and thirst

2. Freedom from pain, injury, and disease

3. Freedom from distress

4. Freedom from discomfort

5. Freedom to express behaviours that promote well-being.
