This bonded pair of senior sanctuary guinea pigs came to Penny & Wild in 2025 at 6 years old. They were surrendered through no fault of their own (allergies) and we are committed to giving them a safe, loving retirement for as long as they have. They are available for adoption together to a family willing to continue their care and spoil them through their golden years.
Before coming to us, the girls had NEVER been seen by a veterinarian. Their previous family believed they were completely healthy. A testament to how well guinea pigs hide signs of illness and why it’s so important to take them to the vet even if they “seem” healthy. Once in our care and fully vetted, we discovered that Mocha is showing the common signs of having ovarian cysts. Sadly, more than half (and as many as 80%!) of unspayed female guinea pigs develop cysts or reproductive cancer by age 4, which is why we routinely spay and neuter all guinea pigs in the rescue unless they are exempt due to age or a medical condition. Mocha and Nugget are now too old for surgery, so we will be exploring a deslorelin implant to help manage Mocha’s symptoms and keep her comfortable.
Nugget luckily appears to be cyst free but has advanced arthritis. She gets Meloxicam daily for pain, which she takes happily right from the syringe like a special treat.
These sweet seniors deserve a quiet, loving home to enjoy their retirement together. If you have room in your heart for a pair of golden-aged girls, Mocha & Nugget would love to meet you.

SOS FL Animal Rescue is a non-profit rescue for rabbits and guinea pigs. We are animal lovers who are experienced rabbit and guinea pig owners. We both fostered small animals with other rescues for years before meeting each other and deciding to start our own rescue so that more rabbits and guinea pigs could be saved. We take in all rabbits and guinea pigs, including unwanted animals, seniors, and medical cases.
