My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Tess — our gentle, wiggly Mastiff girl!

Tess was found running around Auburn before being brought safely to our shelter, and we’ve all fallen for her sweet, gentle nature. She can be a little shy when meeting new people, but once she realizes she’s safe, her whole personality blossoms — soft eyes, slow tail wags, and full-body wiggles included.

She seems to do great with larger dogs, but small dogs and small animals aren’t a good fit for her. Toys are her absolute favorite, and it’s adorable to watch her pick out her favorites. She’s also growing braver every day on her walks and gaining confidence outside.

Tess is truly a special girl who just needs someone patient, kind, and ready to love a gentle giant. Come meet her — she might just be your new best friend. An adoption application can be filled out on the DHS website https://www.dekalbhumanesociety.org/adopt. Dog adoption fees are $200.00 for all puppies and adult dogs. Seniors are a donation of choice.

More about this shelter

At DeKalb Humane Society, we are passionate about finding forever homes for the pets in our care. Whether they are cats, dogs, or other furry friends, our mission is to provide them with a loving and nurturing environment.

We also believe in the importance of education about responsible pet ownership. We strive to educate our community about pet welfare, the benefits of spaying/neutering, and the prevention of animal abuse and neglect.

By adopting a pet from us, you are not only gaining a lifetime companion, but you are also contributing to our cause and helping us raise awareness. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of these innocent animals.

The DeKalb Humane Society filed for our Certificate of Incorporation on December 23, 1975 and we were granted 501(c)3 status in March of 1976. We are committed to being a no-kill shelter and serving the DeKalb County area.
