My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

Please contact Janice (janice.frazier@sbcglobal.net) for more information about this pet.

She's a special kitty!

Ella is a very sweet girl. She did have one eye removed and has limited vision in the other. But as you can see from her videos, she certainly plays with no problem. She has the cutest little habit of playing/carrying her toys around. She will actually fetch things back to her favorite area of the moment and is very proud of her efforts!
She enjoys people and napping on your lap (she just jumps right up into it), once she is done with play time.
She does have a lot of energy and we think she will do well with a family environment to provide her with plenty of attention. She would like a companion kitty BUT one has to be careful to make sure her remaining eye doesn't get scratched so we've been cautious with others. And, as a tortie, it’s likely she will be fine with no feline company in the long run.

Ella has quite the interesting backstory. We took her at the San Martin's shelter request, because she was a little bit nervous and scared and needed us to work with her. She came to us with two eye injuries, one of which the eye was going to need to be removed and the other which we wanted left alone because we knew she could see; you can see this by videos. During the eye surgery, there was an awful lot of bleeding like nothing the vets had ever seen before and it seems as if she had a stroke following the surgery, probably due to a blood clot. She actually passed away and had to be brought back. We have done major work with her to get her back to where she started. When we first got her back, she wasn't even walking right and we had to do physical therapy to get her legs working again properly. Little-by-little, we worked on more and more things (vision, hearing, olfaction). She's totally fine now and quite the athlete.

13thstcats.org is a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit, No-Kill Rescue Group based in San Jose.

We try our best to match our cats to the perfect homes, and match them based on their personalities, not their looks. Adoptions are not done on a first come, first serve basis, rather in the order of what homes are the right match for that particular cat

More about this rescue

13th Street Cats is an all volunteer organization dedicated to improving the lives of feral and social cats and reducing the population by TNR – Trap, Neuter, Return in Santa Clara County. Kittens and cats that can be socialized are taken into foster care while waiting adoption. With a no kill philosophy, 13th St Cats is pleased to be able to rescue these homeless animals who might otherwise end up in a local kill shelter, helping to reduce euthanasia rates.
