Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Mackerel came to Dakin when the elderly gentleman she lived with became very ill. Since then she's been parking her paws in foster care, but this gorgeous lady is waiting to make a grand entrance into your home and adding that certain something to your decor! She is shy, calm and pretty quiet, but will meow at times if she wants
something. Mackerel likes being able to have her own space, and while she isn't a fan of being petted, she enjoys sitting next to her person. This mature kitty catches her share of z-z-z-z's but still has a playful nature, swatting at wand toys, "hunting" toy mice and enjoying the sweet smell of catnip toys. One of her favorite pastimes is gazing out the window, so she's hoping for a room with a view. This sweet lady would do well in a quiet home with one or two adults who respect her boundaries. Adopting mature cats has perks: no kittens hanging on your drapes or destroying the family heirloom. What you see is what you get when you adopt a mature kitty. Mackerel feels she's enough cat for anybody and would prefer to be your only feline friend.
Change is hard for this cat. This cat will be very nervous when you first bring them home. You will need to set up a room with a litter box, food, and water. It will take days for this cat to become comfortable and confident in the new home. This cat will be going home with a behavior plan that will need to be followed in order for everyone to transition successfully.
Sassy cats are usually confident, intelligent and active. They often don’t like to be held, or have places on their bodies that they prefer not to be touched. When handled or
petted in ways they do not prefer, they are likely to swat, nip or bite. They will be happiest in adult only homes or those with older kids who understand cats that have rules and will leave them alone. If they are bored then they may get into trouble and often need extra playtime in order to be their best selves. Sassy cats will go home with a behavior plan that will need to be followed in order for EVERYONE in the home to be happy. Typically, sassy cats are not for first-time cat owners.
