My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

How this pet arrived:
This pet was brought in by a community member on 11/1/25.

Why this pet is the one for you:
Meet Cusco, a handsome and distinguished pup looking for a calm, loving new home! To quote a volunteer who recently took this happy boy out on a Dog Day Out, "Cusco was chill as a cucumber during our hike and walked nicely with another shelter dog. He's so loveable and will shower you with kisses. He's just the best dog!" If you couldn't tell by this glowing endorsement, Cusco is a real fan favorite. He enjoys gentle attention and has shared his sweet, relaxed personality with people he trusts. He has a generally laidback, calm demeanor and makes an excellent companion for lazy days on the couch! Cusco would thrive in a quieter household without cats or young children, though he may be able to coexist with a respectful, easygoing dog. He may not be a fit for off-leash dog venues, but we're happy to share other activities you can do together to bond. If you're looking for a companion who appreciates a peaceful environment and steady companionship, Cusco may be your perfect match! Come speak to an adoption counselor to learn more about him today.

More about this shelter

San Diego Humane Society, an open-admission shelter, is creating a more humane world by inspiring compassion and advancing the welfare of animals and people. Our lifesaving safety net has helped San Diego become the largest city in the U.S. to keep healthy and treatable shelter animals from being euthanized. We are a private, independent, nonprofit organization that is not affiliated with any other humane society or society for the prevention of cruelty to animals.

With campuses in El Cajon, Escondido, Oceanside, Ramona and San Diego, we provide animal services for 14 cities within San Diego County. We not only care for 50,000 animals in our communities but also share the expertise we have gained through our innovative programs with shelters nationwide so they can save more lives in their communities.

While our influence is expanding nationally, our top priority is meeting the needs of San Diego. We provide exceptional care for all animals through world-class veterinary medicine, shelter and most of all: love.
