November 2025: Scout is the pretty little GSP that was found near Des Plaines Conservation area after having been dumped. It's a long story- but she is safe and finishing up her heat cycle. Scout tested positive for Lyme disease and Rocky Mountain spotted fever and both tick borne diseases can affect a dog's ability to scent birds in the field. When I met Scout my first thought was that she was in LA LA LAND. A little goofy-- could be hormones too. She did great at the vet however for her blood draw and her exam. We are looking for a Foster to Adopt family in the Chicago area because she can't be spayed until mid January to let her hormones settle down and to do some consistent treatment for her Lyme and RMSF. We know NOTHING about her hunting ability and not sure we will be able to test her nose on birds so I am looking for a pet home for now and a fenced in yard is MANDATORY. She has had some playdates with other dogs and she seems to be fine. She will need some basic obedience.
