My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Come meet Chispa!

Chipsa is a 7 year old Whippet mix, who before coming to the shelter lived a life of neglect as an outdoor dog. Despite that, Chipsa has a heart overflowing with love for people, other dogs- not so much! While not outwardly reactive to other dogs out on walks, Chispa would need to be the only pet in the home.

Chipsa has recently gone on trips out of the shelter to get a break and did well! She rode in the car like a champ, loved roaming around the park and took selfies (only on her good side). Chipsa is seriously sweet and this social senior needs out of the shelter!

More about this shelter

The Associated Humane Societies rescues stray and homeless animals, both domestic and wildlife, providing quality care and sanctuary until loving homes can be found. As a community-based organization, we provide low-cost veterinary care and humane education to promote responsible pet guardianship throughout New Jersey.

For over a century we have offered a haven to abused and neglected animals. Founded in 1906, AHS is the largest animal sheltering system in New Jersey, operating three shelters located in Newark, Forked River, and Tinton Falls. Our Forked River facility also includes Popcorn Park. Established in 1977, Popcorn Park is a sanctuary for abandoned, injured, ill, exploited, abused, or elderly wildlife, exotic and farm animals, and birds.

The Society is a not-for-profit, 501(c)3 organization and we take pride in our devotion to the thousands of animals that come through our doors looking for a better life.

Please visit our website AHSCares.org for additional information.
